Can anyone help me ID this knife?

Hi all,

My stepfather left me this knife several years ago when he passed away. I know nothing about knives, but the original price is still on it at $49.95. The box says "Parker Usa" in script, and then underneath that it says Eagle Brand Knives. It also says in smaller print Made in Jacksonville, Alabama. There is a number on the end of the box: A1395. The knife came with a leather belt sheath, and I think it is a switchblade type of knife. From what little information I've learned so far, the handle looks like what they call 'stag'. The total length of the knife when opened is about 5 inches. When you open the knife, there is a small marking in the blade that says Parker with some sort of bird under that, and then USA under that. The writing is placed where the blade opens and closes. I know he purchased it probably in the 80's at some time. This is really stumping me and any info would be greatly appreciated! I have pics to email if anyone wants to get a better look. Howdy Stacy,

I can't seem to find a picture of that exact knife in my copy of Parker's book. However, there is a newer version that was published just before he passed away. Maybe someone else will be able to find a picture of that knife. I believe it was made between 1987-1990, when Parker USA was the stamp being used. It does look like stag scales. It does not look like a switchblade...but a lockback. If you press down on the flat bar on top, at the back, to close it, then it's a lockback. How long exactly is the knife when it's closed? It looks like there was an A139 series of lockbacks...but they were all 5" closed. A picture of the knife open, showing the stamp (it's an Eagle I believe) might help someone get closer for you.

Hi Bill!

You are correct...my naivete is showing. It is not a switchblade; it is a lockback. The knife measures about 6 inches closed. You've got the time about right too; my stepdad bought this in probably in the mid or maybe late '80s. I wish I could find out more about it, but your info has helped me greatly! Thanks for the posting.

Measure closed again...see if it isn't 5". That would make it a fit in the A139 series.

Perfect Bill! It's 5 inches exactly closed. It also has the numbers A1395 on the end of the box. Is there anywhere I could find more info about this knife?
