For Sale: 2 Vintage German Pearl 'Gent's' Knives

First knife is a lovely 2 7/8", 6 blade knife with colorful pearl and tip bolsters, marked "A.Kastor/& Bros/Germany". All 'blades' have nice opening & closing snap and none have any play. It is a sweet little knife, but not a "mini". I think never used with original finish. Likely about 100 years old, i.e. 1920 or maybe a bit older.
"A. Kastor & Bros. Germany was the brand used by Aaron Kastor a N.Y. businessman, importer of German cutlery. His Family owned and operated "Kastor & Co. AG" a cutlery manufacturing factory founded in 1892. Most likely this knife was made by Kastor in Germany.

Second knife is a 3", three blade senator with pearl handles, blades marked "Jacoby/& Wester/Germany" and the logo of Anchor with Star in center, pierced by an Arrow, showing it was made by manufacturer Wester & Butz in Solingen. This trademark was registered in 1895. Wester & Butz specialized in fancy 'dress' knives rather than larger 'work' knives.
This senator has scissors, that work well, spring is intact. "Senator" is just a name for an equal end pen knife with 2, 3 or 4 blades. Having scissors in a senator is special, they were the most expensive. For many manufacturers of 100+ tears ago, the 4 blade senator was the most expensive folding knife they sold.
This one has fine blade action, no play at all. The pen secondary has a half stop.
Very fine knife.

Man KJ...those are some beautiful knives! I’ve never been a big of a fan of the “gents” style pocket knives, but I just became one! Especially of that Kastor & Bros! It’s awesome! But you’d have to be BLIND to not appreciate both of them!! they just ooze craftsmanship!!

The two Gent's knives from Roland arrived today and I couldn't be more pleased. What remarkable condition for knives around 100 years old!

I couldn't resist attaching a photo of some of my pearls. The top two are the Kastor Bros. and the Jacoby & Wester from Roland followed by Valley Forge Cutlery, Henckels, Robeson, Ed. Wusthof, Peters Brothers (with a Stanhope viewer), Geo. Wostenholm, and a Queen (with backspring and blade file work by Samuel Nelson).*

* Nelson was a master cutler who apprenticed in Sheffield, emigrated to the U.S. in 1893, and worked in the U.S. in CT, then in Titusville for Shatt & Morgan, and retired from Camillus in 1946. He is know for his intricate file work on pearl handled knives and you can see examples in an article about him in the October 2012 issues of Knife World.
