This knife is usually called a "Rooster Nutter", the secondary blade being used to castrate roosters. I have no idea how this is done or where a rooster keeps his nuts.

Thanks Roland, I am afraid my field of experience did not include turning roosters in capon either. Thanks for the proper name.kootenay joe wrote:This knife is usually called a "Rooster Nutter", the secondary blade being used to castrate roosters. Re: Mail Call !-Post your new pick-ups here............
Seems like lately I am only finding knives I really want in spurts....
Well.... here is a little spurt I just landed..... it's on it's way.
Craftsman 9494 (Camillus #72)....
I'm slowly gaining a little ground on my 72 collection Jerry....
(I'm in no way gonna ever have as many as you...)
They sure are some really great knives Jerry!

This new arrival is a first generation, 1983, Stag Bulldog. Two blades, two springs, an almost seemless runup. More photos will be posted in the Bulldog thread.

Mike, that's a very, very nice 9494. I'm going to say Schrade made (863). Note the handle jigging, shield and pull on the main blade. You done real good there my friend.
Forged on the anvil of discipline.

WOW... coming from you Jerry, that is quite a complement for this knife!jerryd6818 wrote:Mike, that's a very, very nice 9494. I'm going to say Schrade made (863). Note the handle jigging, shield and pull on the main blade. You done real good there my friend.
Thanks for the extra info Jerry.
(I guess I forgot that Craftsman didn't really have a specific shield of their own.... just makers shields with "CRAFTSMAN" on 'em)

Well..... here just came another one of those spurts.... I just found myself another Craftsman.
This one is a 9555 (the one with the saw blade)... I have been told these are not very common.
In the mail..... The main blade is a little boogered but I can handle that. Heck, for what I paid... I am HAPPY.

Woah!
Those are pickups of the year Mike!
Ticked every box and then some!
You hunted it down, killed it, and dragged them home (paraphrasing Dave Ramsey).
So happy for you Mike!

My mail lady has been very generous of late. Today she brought this Schrade 863 covered in Stag from the hand of Mr. Herman Williams. He graciously confirmed that it was one of his. Am I pleased. More pic's on the Schrade forum

Thanks doglegg, but I saw them and still can't see half the pile side scale or enough blade. Would be great to see more of that one. Gorgeous from what I can see.

Re: Mail Call !-Post your new pick-ups here............
Well I can't really compete with the last two picks but non the less, this is a pic of my first Rough Rider. I bought a small one first so I could see how good they are made. I'm happy with it. For the price, it's a really nice knife. Might buy one or two more. They have some good looking Stockman & Sowbelly Knives that I like. Oh and I have a question on this knife. It has a brass liner between the 2 blades so that each blade is in it's own little compartment. Never seen this before. Is there any term for that?
Thanks for the info. Tom
