Old Knife 1860's-1890's

One bladed folding knife 5 1/8 inches closed knife marked.... George Wostenholm Celebrated IXL Cutlery....Sheffield Knife is well used and the blade has a strong snap...Handles are beautiful with nice shield....bolsters pinched... I believe the knife is original but welcome all discussion!

Welcome here, raincrowe.
It looks like some one tried to improve on the long pull on your knife.
It would be nice to see the knife with the blade extended.
It sure has beautiful old stag covers.

Yeah I agree... looks as if someone tried to altered the long pull to make it easier to pull out....the knife is well used.. beautiful pinned on shield... but overall a wonderful example of early great craftsmanship!...... pic of extended blade...those handles are as nice as I've seen....thanks for looking and welcome more input!

With those handles, if the knife had no blades it would still be beautiful. Worn to perfection.

My guess is the blade originally had a regular pull out toward the tip and for whatever reason, as the blade was shortened and reshaped, the the pull was lost and the hand made version applied.

Beautiful old knife! Looks a lot like this one I've had for many years that someone fabricated a blade for. The stag is the best I've seen for character.

If you mean what pattern it is;I have always referred to them as large jacks.Sadly I will never know the maker but it does look a lot like the Wostenholm you have except for the lack of a shield.
