Does a Springer open fully when you press the release lever? This is a Bonsa 4 1/2" closed. Blade just pops up enough to open by hand'

Should absolutely open fully when the lever is engaged. Others who understand the mechanics better than I will offer additional info.

If I remember correctly Bill DeShivs recommended using a bit of lithium grease on the pivot to decrease the friction between the blade and the liners. I have a Bonsa lever that did that and the lithium grease cured the problem.

If I have one that acts that way I will take a thin screw drive and get behind the spring and pull up on it to get more tension on the spring . Then oil it .

If the spring is sitting below the level of the liner that might help but you are also taking the chance of snapping the spring.I prefer to take a screwdriver and gently spread the liners apart near the pivot and while spread insert the lithium grease. The down side to this is if you putt too much pressure on them you can crack the handles.JMHO.
