Charlie Campagna
For those that don’t see posts in the upper room thread.
Our beloved friend and philanthropist had a stroke Saturday.
The extent of the severity and the arterial problem that caused it are still being accessed. Texting might be the best form of communication at this time, my opinion.
He was talking and optimistic, but tired. He still had his sense of humor. Didn’t talk long though. I hope and pray his condition will improve tomorrow.

Re: Charlie Campagna
Charlie is known as "UpNorth" on AAPK.
He is mostly active over at BladeForums, but still drops in here occasionally.
He posts great scans of great knives.
He needs our prayers.
He is great people. I have bought, sold and traded with him. Never a problem.

Re: Charlie Campagna
Charlie is most awesome. He invited me to the little knife club that meets here in Surrey and both times I’ve attended, he’s gone out of his way to introduce me to everyone and include me in the conversation. A real gentleman. I’ve been looking forward to the next meetup.
If he is talking and coherent, that’s a very good sign. My mom had several strokes and was in no way herself for a very long time. That he is able to have conversations is about as hopeful as you can get.
I’ll send him and email myself and send him all good wishes right now, on here.

Charlie is an all-around nice guy, and huge supporter of the traditional knife movement. Hope he is able to bounce back from this.
Our prayers and thoughts are with him and his family.

Does anyone have an update on how Charlie C. is doing ? I could phone him but being a guy with so many friends i think he might have already received more calls than he feels up to dealing with.

Re: Charlie Campagna
I copied Gunstockjack’s post on BF
“
Everyone, I just talked with Charlie's daughter Melissa about his condition. He has had a stroke and it has affected his left side motor function and also his thinking somewhat. He cannot drive and will need months of physical therapy, but odds of a relatively full recovery are good. I'm still in shock myself, and information is sketchy as medical tests are underway, but I'm hopeful that he will make a full recovery with the help of therapy and care. Meanwhile, Melissa will be helping with his knife business until he is well enough to handle things on his own, and she was kind enough to permit me to give this short explanation of his condition to all of his great friends and supporters here on "the porch".
Get well soon Charlie! We miss you!!!!”

Re: Charlie Campagna
Thank you Lyle.
Of course we all hope Charlie makes a good recovery and maintains his sharp mental abilities. The next few days are crucial. Early improvement will be the best sign of a good recovery. Being in Vancouver, B.C. means he is receiving the best of medical care.
Right now, rest is an important part of recovery so i will wait a few days before calling him to give my heart felt support.

Re: Charlie Campagna
We spoke yesterday and he was already tired of hospital life. He said he feels the left side, but has no strength there. Therapy is expected to be extensive.
It’s amazing the outpouring of love and support, but deserved.

Re: Charlie Campagna
Here is a quote from a part of a post by Duncan, over in Blade Forums. Pretty sure Duncan will be OK with me copying it over to here.
"Hey guys I was lucky enough to speak to Charlie this weekend - if you could imagine the copious txts and emails and calls he has received it just isn’t possible for him to answer., so I am incredibly lucky of the timing and who’s phone I happened to ring when they were there. I guess it was a mixture of many things that lead me to be able to talk to our friend.
The great thing is Charlie sounds VERY sharp- I must admit the location I was in and my bad hearing wasn’t a good mix but it was nice - no sorry - it was Fantastic to hear this lovely mans voice and to hear good spirits and well ....just Charlie.
As we know those of us who have had possibly a big operation leaves you exhausted- well so does something like this - the physical side of things where therapy is involved will take its time - and that can be as long as a piece of rope. But it looks amazingly good. Most importantly Charlie is still here with us and I’m excited for his future.
After the meetings and talks with Charlie- it has had a profound effect on me and really has me the want of taking a leaf out of that Mans book - teaching me a lot more than I know, showing in no other way but through actions that a true man is the patient Man, the true man who is generous with his sharing of knowledge and time and even knives, but more than that - his want to nurture many many many others in the World that we are involved in here at Traditionals - and that is not only do we share the passion- and boy do we share this for knives - but with this also a strong sense of decency and respect.
Not only does Charlie lead in knife collecting- but also greatly in what I described above as he sure leads in the form of a very decent man."
