So in the video after sharpening the guy’s knife he says “I’ll do em today for $20 each, or 2 for $30. I assume he’s selling the sharpeners for $20 each, not sharpening blades for $20? He also says, after holding the knife in front of the camera “American made”. It must be those sharpeners that are American made, because Old Timer knives are now made in China.

Kinda confusing what he's selling. Old Timers or sharpeners. Or maybe it's just me.

At first I thought he meant per knife but the sharpeners are $18 on amazon.
I looked it up and the guy in the video is actually the owner of the company.

Sometimes I like to browse youtube and look at sharpening videos,
not that I need help sharpening, I am quite proficient, I just like to see what others may do.
I found this video and got a laugh...

Those type of sharpeners will work, but the ones that use flat carbide cutters (like in the second video you posted), will chatter and leave little cuts into the blade. I have had people bring them into the cutlery store and it looked like they had been serrated because of the chattering as they pulled the blade pocket why across the cutters.
The ceramic rods in the pull-through cutter are decent sharpeners for just tuning up an edge and deburring it. They do not cause chattering and gouging of the blade like the carbide cutters do.


The cutter in the original video looks to be different from the carbide cutters, I believe those cutters are round, like mini butchers steels. That with the fact that they are spring-loaded may prevent the serrated effect that the flat carbide cutters tend to inflict on a blade.

If anyone has these sharpeners or has used them, I would be interested to have your opinion about them, especially I would be interested in how your blade looks after using this sharpener for an extended period of time.

When I watch the first video, a second video popped up afterwords which was a lady, (perhaps his wife?) was demonstrating the sharpener and she explained the sharpener a little more in depth that in the first video. It is considerably longer and much more informative, IMHO.
