Re: Mail Call !-Post your new pick-ups here............
I had been looking for a single bladed knife to permanently carry in the front "watch pocket" of my jeans. Settled on this Solingen Stag Boker which came in today from Kennedy Knives. Two features: It contains a blade stud for opening and also has a liner lock. It opens very smoothly. The stud should be thought of as replacing a nail nick because the smallish size of the knife [31/2"] makes attempting a one hand opening awkward. Think I'm going to be very pleased with this knife.

BH, Iman, QS, WillyC, thanks for your kind words. The Glennbad mod seems to be the focus of attention and I agree. Thanks again Wade.
And QS that Boker looks pretty fabulous. Love the stag.

EO, EZ I can live with either one. Probably EO the more officially correct term?

QS, that is the perfect knife. Thumbstud and linerlock, just like my EDC Kershaw Double Cross.Quick Steel wrote:I had been looking for a single bladed knife to permanently carry in the front "watch pocket" of my jeans. I got the Case 2 blade bone stag Barlow I ordered from SHC. I thought they had cancelled my backorder on this one. But glad they didn’t. It’s a nice one.

Just curious because I liked it so much I bought one! It's called a Gerber Stockman and mine has never been used, carried or sharpened. There is no tang stamp, only the Gerber logo etched on the blade.Ivoryman wrote:Well I don't know anything about it. The neighbor said he bought it from the Gerber factory/store or whatever existed way back when at the time Gerber was in Portland. He didn't say it was made in Portland, he said the factory was there and that's where he boughtt it decades ago, so I don't know if they had knives made in Japan or Portland or what, just that Portland was the place he bought it.ken98k wrote:I think that has to be the best looking Gerber I've ever seen!Ivoryman wrote:Old neighbor of mine is regularly showing off his tactical/cigarette lighter type knives to me and asking me what I like to carry. Did some favors for him so he wanted to show me he appreciated it. I showed him my fare. So he dug this out of his old box and sent me home with it. Nice guy. Nice knife. Very solid lock up and if I didn't know better I would say it was some Japanese Seki made piece. But nope, just a plain old Portland, OR Gerber. Nice bolsters embellishment though. Sweeeeeeet, smooth action and bank vault lock up. Good antler.

Yeah, same with this one. No tang anything. Seems recent enough someone from Gerber might know though, if you're into contacting the company. Good luck. Would love to see yours. I must say I was impressed with the action, lock up, smooth pull, everything about the workings. But this one has small gaps between stag and bolsters, pretty much all of them, and they filled it with grey material instead of white like the stag so it looks off a bit. But the bolsters and all the metal is fine. Just that transition between stag and metal. Anyway it's a great knife, hope you like yours.ken98k wrote:Just curious because I liked it so much I bought one! It's called a Gerber Stockman and mine has never been used, carried or sharpened. Today arrived what I estimate to be the finest Barlow in my collection. It is a Bulldog made with superb precision. Snap, half stop, and the deepest cut, most beautiful Winterbottom bone I have seen. Acquired from AAPK Luv Stag.

QS, I agree that is one of the most beautiful Barlow’s I have seen. Wonder how I missed that one? I would have bought that in a heart beat if the price was right. Congrats on picking such a fine knife.Quick Steel wrote:Today arrived what I estimate to be the finest Barlow in my collection. It is a Bulldog made with superb precision. Thanks SSK. If you had seen Luv Stag's photos I have no doubt you would have snatched it up. Unlike mine, his photos really brought out the beauty of the bone. Price was $84. I consider it a great value.

CORRECTION: The BD Barlow price was $100, not $84. Worth every penny imo.

I have to agree QS, that is one sweet looking barlow! $100 is a steal for such a perfect knife.
In re-guard's to the Gerber question, i personally love Gerber knives! Great edc's. They are made in China, Gerber is owned by Fiskars. That is why they are such great knives. High quality steel and great fit and finish. Cheap too.
Hope the helps.
