Camillus Celluloid Offgassing?

Did Camillus have issues with celluloid like some of the other manufacturers? I was looking at a 72 on E-bay that looked like it might go for a reasonable amount. But after looking closely at the pics it looks like it’s having the offgassing issue.

I don’t remember hearing about this for Camillus knives.

Are you sure that’s celluloid? I’ll take your word, of course, as I don’t have a 72. Sure want one, though.
Offgassing really pits carbon. This doesn’t really look the same. As a Richards collector, I’ve seen outgassing!

Jeffin, I've not heard of Delrin off gassing, which is the scales on that one. But I'm not the expert and have shown to be wrong before.

Jeff, that doesn’t look like celluloid to me, it looks more like delrin. But that damage does look like off gassing. I think this was stored too close to a knife that was off gassing. I saw damage like that on an old Parker bone handled knife I had in a collection I bought. Couldn’t account for the damage then but after reading about off gassing I think that’s what caused it.

Okay, thanks for the feedback.
It thought they were Delrin handles but the corrosion pattern on the bolster and on the outer edges of the blades looked familiar.
I didn’t consider that it may have been stored next to a knife that was offgassing, that makes sense to me.

Ssk has the answer. Delrin handled 72 that was stored close to outgassing celluloid .

And it is common. There are many knives 'out there' with corrosion on blades/bolsters/shield and sometimes even springs, from a gaseous neighbour.

Yes it is 'good to know'. Also know that some sellers will darken the pictures so that the corrosion is not so obvious. Be wary of knives shown with 'dark' pictures.

It’s not just knives that can get gassed. My little Queens Coronation Richards did a lot of damage to my grandmother’s buttonhook which was in the same box.
