Sabre Grand Daddy Barlow

These are relatively inexpensive knives (steel liners, hollow steel bolsters etc.) But I like them for some reason so I pick one up from time to time.I have two of them disassembled in my project box but both of them had the same problem, the bolsters fell off during disassembly. Its a common problem with these knives, they don't put enough solder on the bolsters during the initial assembly and the solder joint breaks during disassembly. You can see at the top of the liner there's just a thin bead of solder;

I cleaned up the liner, applied some additional flux and solder and reheated the bolster. There's no gap between the bolster and liner now so its safe to assume the the solder flowed into the joint where needed;

I had some weird colored green-yellow handles in my box of parts that Culpepper called moss green. I never quite liked the color so I decided to use it on this inexpensive knife. I epoxied the pieces into place and let them sit overnight;

The knife re-assembly went well. I did find it a bit more difficult to polish the steel bolsters, they just didn't clean up quite as well as I would have liked. I'm assuming a different compound might have helped. But they turned out okay.
The bone color is still weird. I call it a yellow/green candy apple color. Interesting color but I probably wouldn't use it on another knife. Heres the completed knife;

I’ve got a couple more of these grand daddy Sabre’s that I’m going to upgrade in the near future. Something about a single blade large knife just makes me smile! Especially one that generally sells for under $10.

I normally don't care much for green bone handles, but those really do look appealing (after sanding and polishing. To start out with, they are too green for me!)
