Three years ago my computer's hard drive died suddenly, and I lost a huge amount of pictures. These, along with many others, found them on a forgotten memory card.

If you look at the first picture of the Blue Birds you can see a white chick looking out the hole. Winter from our side door. Lot's of peanut butter and a heated bird bath.

A female cardinal, a little dark eyed Junco and a White Wing Dove at the feeder. The White Wings have migrated up here from south Texas in the last 15 to 20 years. Bigger than regular morning doves and most are bullies as well. Identifiable by the white line of feathers along their lower wing.

Re: Ornithology (Bird) Thread
Doc it is a Nikon Coolpix 510. Basically a point and shoot camera with a built in telephoto. I'm not much on f stops and shutter speed so point and shoot is perfect for me. It's 42 power optical zoom, they have stronger ones now but that was the most when I was buying. I sure like it. Thanks.Doc B wrote:Doglegg...Another thumbs...on those fine shotsdoglegg wrote:A female cardinal, a little dark eyed Junco and a White Wing Dove at the feeder. Re: Ornithology (Bird) Thread
Cool photos, Steve and Doglegg. Those White Wing Doves made it to my area in coastal Alabama a few years ago. I still remember the first one I ever saw in this state, about twenty years ago. Now they are common. I think they are displacing the Mourning Doves in my neighborhood. Seems like I see more White Wings and fewer Mourning Doves as time passes.

Thanks Dinadan, in my younger day I never saw a white wing as they were just a south Texas bird but now they are everywhere around here. And their call is a little different, easy to identify when you hear one.

Re: Ornithology (Bird) Thread
I agree about the different call. To me, the White Wing's call is a little more like an owl's hoot. Yesterday we finally had a sunny spring day and the doves were calling a lot around my place.

Got up this morning headed to the coffee pot and realized that during the night we had been invaded by a Banana Duck! It didn't hang around very long.
