Pre 1990 knives from Japan

Post by LDF Knives »

Howdy, I have been a member for a few years! The knife companies (from Japan) in contract with the U. S. A. knife companies. Are there higher quality knifes made back in the Pre 1990's better than after 1990? Steel wise, handle wise, etc. ::shrug::

The Japanese have been making knives for centuries. Lots of different makers, different types of knives. As currently phrased, your question is very broad and subjective. There are a lot of possible answers, depending on the maker. Do you have a specific company, or companies in mind? If you can be more specific maybe someone can give a better response.

The answer is No.
Japan began exporting knives to USA in 1960's-'70's. By 1980's some were of very high quality (Hiro, Moki, and many others) and this has been maintained to the present. Note this is not every knife made in Japan just the top end. Nothing changed in the 1990's to affect quality of the knives.
