If that has a usa on the stamp it's a 1950's knife. If it's just schrade walden ny with no USA then its late 1940's to early 50's. The 890 is one of my favorite patterns.

Thanks, Paul. That's something I didn't know. But I do know why you like it!

guarddog, I was just looking at your snow photo in lovely Maine. That is some serious snow. In KY this year we have had little more than a dusting.

I chose the CS for today since I'll be going into town. The Vaquero is my choice for a self-defense knife. The blade pattern is ideal for my defensive "style." I won't bore you with the details, but suffice it to say that I reject the notion of "In a knife fight, you are going to be cut." Such are the musings of this senior citizen who imagines he still has the agility of his youth. Ha!

I like most of the CS knives very much: Very durable, sharp, good value.

Big new A G Russell for the back pocket and a nice older Keen Kutter for the front pocket today. The KK has a good deal of blade loss but still
not ready for retirement yet, kinda like me. :D

The Case 047 stockman pattern has been my favorite EDC. I have a couple but in bone. I’ve been looking for one in stag for a while but all I was finding were either near mint (and expensive) or in bad shape. Steve (knifaholic) had this used 53047 in reasonable condition and price in his AAPK store. It arrived today, needed just a little tune up. After some pencil lead treatment and Tuf-glide, a little mineral oil, a bunch of elbow grease and a drop of Quick Release oil in each blade pivot, it’s now in my pocket where it belongs. Blades are pretty sharp already. Thanks Steve! ::tu::

That’s a nice one! One of my favorite patterns.

Carrying a #49 Queen, the well used one on the bottom, waiting till I wear it out to use the top one. :) These are my avatar knives, both have the 1958-60 stamp.

Thank you sir! ::handshake:: I know people prefer the red bone of the Tested or early XX period but this USA-era "pretty bone" is pretty fantastic too.

Your pic shows why I'm such a huge fan of Winterbottom bone, fresh from factory or good and pocket-worn. I fear Queen's demise might cause us not to see any more legitimate offerings with these fantastic bone handles.

Philip, those Winterbottom Queens are stunning! You might as well go ahead and get some enjoyment out of carrying that newer one. ::nod::

Wade, and QS, thanks for the comments on my new-to-me 53047. I haven’t carried a stag in over 40 years, so I guess it’s about time. Don’t know why I waited so long. ::dang::

Another favorite Stockman, also Schrade-Walden but without bone. Or should I say with Delrin. Even so, I think it is the prettiest Delrin I've got.

Thanks!

A pair in wood and damascus today, drop point by Johnny Stout and a slipjoint by Aussie, Bruce Barnett, both made for me. A rare peice of Cocobolo burl that I sourced on the DP and some Sheoak Lace on the slipjoint. The damascus on Bruce's is his own starburst mosaic(A2 backspring), and the DP has a bar that Devin Thomas forged for me with a core of CruForgV and his high contrast bubblewrap forged to the outside, extremely hard to do and have a straight core.

I always have a Victorinox SAK, usually a Super Tinker, in my left pocket because they're so handy. In my right, I carry the ones I love most. Right now, that's a Queen #64 canoe with bone scales.

First alternates are a Queen gunboat canoe, a Camillus 5-blade scout knife, and a Spyderco Sage.
