Crazy Camillus Cub Scout
$300 for a Camillus Cub Scout? What the heck?
https://www.ebay.com/itm/ANTIQUE-CAMILL ... Swz2lXCUdg
But get this, seller says "Research what these knives are selling for before you make me ridiculous offers". Yeah, I did, not even taking 30 seconds and I know it's 20 times overpriced--most on eBay right now are in the $15 range, and that's what I paid for the one in my EDC rotation, and consider fair. The only "ridiculous" thing is the seller's price tag and $17.50 to ship the knife. The $14 price tag on the one I own actually included its shipping. Not to mention they take 5 days to process the order--makes it seems as if they are lazy too.
I was thinking about messaging the seller and telling them I did research what they were selling for, and that not one recently sold came even within 10 percent of what the asking price is, but I figured I'd just be wasting my time with this nut.

Ebay is full of this kind of stuff. Even reputable knife dealer are beginning to stretch the envelope between open honesty and 'not quite telling everything', and, of course, the greed angle. Some of them are getting buyers who will pay 300% of market, I guess, and I have seen it. They probably don't get too much going for these 3000% market prices, but, who knows?

Re: Crazy Camillus Cub Scout
I decided to have a little fun with this fellow. I sent three photos of ebay pages of sold camillus cub scouts, all going for MUCH lower prices than this one and said "perhaps research what these are selling for before asking ridiculous prices".
Maybe I should have left it alone, but it was so tempting
Edit: these are the example photos I sent of sold listings.

Re: Crazy Camillus Cub Scout
Looking at this listing and his other listings, all his asking prices look ridiculous to me. However his items sell. Does this indicate that there is 'niche' market of ebay buyers who have money but but no sense ? Listing odd items for very high prices might be a way to bring in a significant amount of money. 99% of viewers might conclude 'this guy is a NUT' and 1% think the items are worthy of the price and buy an item. So what if 99% of people dismiss you as a 'nutter' when the remaining 1% send you money for junk.
I base this idea that the buyers are equally as nutty as the seller on his FB. Not only is it 100% positive but many of the comments are effusively positive like: "Great Communication, Best Value Seller, Masterful Shipping - Trusted, Tops...!!!"
"BEST VALUE SELLER" ! gotta be a nutter to say that here.
And there are too many buyers for them to all be members of his family.
If you want to make a pile of money, list your junk at high prices instead of taking it to the recycling depot.

What he is doing if he did that way to get positive feedback and sales to seem legit. In order to fool people.KnifeSlinger#81 wrote:He wouldn't make any money doing that.Twhite wrote: Or he has other accounts and buys his own stuff. Re: Crazy Camillus Cub Scout
It would cost him money in ebay and paypal fees to buy from himself. It seems unlikely to me, there are other easier ways sellers can fake positive feedback.Twhite wrote:What he is doing if he did that way to get positive feedback and sales to seem legit. This seller reminds me of the Hole-In-The-Wall guy we all like so much, not. Both in listing tactics and the style of his response to your question.

Given something they said in one of their item descriptions, I assume they are female.
Or a couple, I guess.

Re: Crazy Camillus Cub Scout
I try very hard to resist the temptation to talk to any seller who either needs some corrections or needs to be beaten about the head and shoulders. Anymore I am pretty successful at NOT talking to them; it is almost always useless and just feeds my frustration and sometimes my anger. Not good, and at the least it is a waste of time. However, once or twice I have given them the URL to the thread on this forum which directly addresses their...umm... "inadequacies." At least one of those times I think it got his attention. Worth a try? I am not going to mess with it on this particular occasion but someone might like to do that.
