Case XX 52131

Hi everyone I'm new here and I was just wondering how much I should sell a Case XX 52131, I believe its from 1940. I looked at the price guide on here and it said about $350, but in my book the "Official Price Guide to Collector Pocket Knives" by C. Houston Price it says its worth $800. It is in near mint condition and on the blade all it says is Case XX. Thanks in advance for the help. I really hope its worth 800 and not 350.

Hi Balisong084,

Welcome to the forums. Sometimes the prices in the AAPK price guide are somewhat speratic.

What they are is ...a collection of observations by me of prices that the knives have been sold for on eBay. If I see a mint (must be described as mint, and pictures must agree as best I can tell) 52131 XX stag sell for $350, I'll put that on there. If I see another sell for $500, I'll average the two.

As you might know many items sold in eBay have a tendancy to bring prices ranging all over the board, so you have to take the info for what it's worth. I would estimate it at closer to $350 than $800 though, unfortunately. Many price guides are really overinflated.

I know there are members here who have a better grasp on realistic values than me. Hpefully they will be able to give you a better idea. A picture would help out a ton as well. Real nice looking stag would bring more IMO. Also, if it's red colored stag, it would bring a lot more.

According to Sargents book, page 190, the 52131 between 1940 & 1964 in Mint condition is valued at $600.00, if it has the long pull it's betwee 1940 & 1955 and in Mint condition, it's valued at $900.00

Now I'm trying to step on anyones toe's here, that's just what I was able to find.

i found pretty much the same thing in jim parkers pocket knife traders price guide. it quotes 600.00 for stag with reg pull but with the long pull stag is 1000.00 and with the red stag being 900.00 and 1600.00 with the long pull.

Just my opinion...

It is highly unlikely that anyone would get anything near those prices (EDIT: $1000.00) for that knife, even in MINT condition. Ebay is a much better resource for what a knife will bring in today's world.
Mr. Parker was in the business of producing "Collectable" knives, and had good reason to price things on the HIGH side. Most folks want there to be an easy way to price a knife. But, in my experience, price guides are sort of futile in today's rapidly changing market. It's a knife, not a form of currency. It depends on who wants the item.

Just been my experience over many years. I have a Schrade in my store here, that has an MSRP of about $500.00. It is available from a famous online dealer for $299.00. I have it priced considerably below that, and no takers so far...it is all about who is looking, not a "Book" value, IMO.

Thanks for the info guys. What is the differance between long pull and regular though? I'll try to include a picture so you guys can tell me what you think mine is worth. My camera card isnt working though so all i have is this one bad picture.
