Clauss Shear Co
As a relatively new collector, I am trying to get as much info on Clauss as I can. I would appreciate any reading materials one could suggest here. Especially any material from the Elyria, Ohio days. Thanks !

Don't know if you've seen the search feature...it's in the quick links on the left side. A quick search turned up about 26 pages, with at least some reference to Clauss knives.
BTW...welcome to AAPK...we like pictures, too...if you have any to show!!!!!!!!!

According to Goins,Clauss was only in Elyria from 1878 to 1887,then moved to Fremont. There were several knife companies in Northern Ohio at 1 time.Jackson Knife and Hollinger were also in Fremont.Canton Cutlery and Novelty knife in Canton.Ohio Cut.in Massilon. Maher & Grosh and Bostwick Braun in Toledo. Those are the ones I can think of off the top of my head, and I know I am leaving out some.

Re: Clauss Shear Co
Clauss contracted others, Case and Queen among them, to make pocket knives with the Clauss name on them. As Doc said, the “Search” feature here will bring a goldmine of photos and information.

If you have any Clauss knives in your collection, we’d like to see them.

Re: Clauss Shear Co
Don't have any pocket knives by Clauss but I have a couple of kitchen knives. One is a bread knife that sees constant use(I buy all my bread unsliced)and it has yet to need sharpening. The other one is a butcher knife that I haven't used yet.
Another Ohio manufacturer was the Clyde Cutlery Co. of Clyde Ohio.I have one partially serrated carver that was a salesman's sample.
