details... the bane of life as we know it-

Well, as I've discovered since leaving Mom's house, she was maybe not as perfect as she led us to believe- add "details of life during an introduction" to an ever growing list.I'm from Mississippi. I'm in Springfield, VA. for the next few years. Retirement is a rapidly approaching target for the wife and myself. We don't have a destination in mind other than someplace with low humidity, low snowfall, no freezing rain. Not too much to ask for, is it? I've been on this Earth for almost 59 years (Lord it can't be that long... why, it seems like just the other day that- well, maybe that's a story better told at another time.)
I work in a rather nice hardware store. I'm the manager of the hardware dept. which means I was the only one around when they were looking for one that was smart enough to keep up with the paperwork and dumb enough to do it for the money they were paying. Actually I'm one of those "one-eyed man in the kingdom of the blind" kinda guys. I prefer the view from the lead dog position.
As to the knives I like- I can't think of one I've ever seen that I wouldn't want to own. My favorite for many years was one my sole remaining Uncle got for renewing his magazine subscription. It was a little single blader with genuine silvertone plastic woodgrain scales. Proudly displayed on BOTH sides was a goldtone plastic eagle portrayed in full flight. I suspect in hindsight that the value may have been mostly sentimental, but I keep a close eye on posting on Ebay in case there's anyone looking for this classic Chinamade beauty.
I guess I like Case more than anything else. My Dad gave me my Grandfather's gunstock stockman last year. I guess it took him so long to give it to me because it meant as much to him as he knew it would to me. I've got knives worth more, but not one that means more.... pocket worn until the bone is smooth and just feels so right in your hand. I hope each of you is lucky enough to own at least one like it in your lifetime.
I also have a few pieces of U.S. made Schrade. One of the wholesalers I deal with has a few left that he trickles out a little bit at a time. A few months back he let some of the Waldens with yellow composition handles go (clear plastic sleeves) and I picked up two models.
Most of my Case inventory came from a man who closed his store.His wife packed their Case display contents into a shoe box and stuck them in the garage. He offered them to me as the buyer for the hardware but I concluded they would get better care with me than being sold to just anyone that walked in off the street. It was a hard decision but I think I was right. He had 23 pocket knives- one I sold and one I gave to my son.
Well, I'm about out of words and I guess maybe you'll think twice before you ask anyone else to tell you a little more about themselves.
