Pocket wear concern

I recently treated myself to a case Russlock knife. The only problem I have is the opening tang pokes a hole in my pocket. I really like the knife but it is wearing out my pockets. I have tried to put it in the watch pocket of my jeans and work pants, but the tang pokes me. I don't want to carry it in a belt sheath. Anyone have any ideas on how not to wear out your pockets?

I have a pocket or two in my jeans wearing out from my keys.
I just ironed on a small patch, like the ones Mom used to use on the knees of my jeans!

Sew a vertical "pocket" on the inside edge of the pocket you carry in. The knife will ride vertically and you can place it so that the lever sticks out of the pocket.

If you carry your wallet in a back pocket stick the knife upright next to your wallet, I have the same knife and I carry it like that with no problems. That's how I carry most of my knives.

Exactly how I carry a knife that size in my back pocket. You’ll be surprised how well the knife rides and stays upright next to your wallet. Place the the knife on the “outside” of your wallet (toward your hip, not the small of your back). You’ll also be surprised how easy it is to retrieve it from your pocket with just a little practice. I don’t carry a Russlock though - IMHO one of the ugliest knives Case ever made.

Great explanation Ken, that's exactly how I do it. Sometimes the knife will fall sideways when I remove my wallet but it's a small issue. Because the knife is on the outside of the pocket you don't sit on it either, which is good.

The other way I carry is in my front pocket with a bandana next to the knife to hold it in place. I frequently carry one in the back pocket and a backup in the left front pocket with the bandana. Pocket slips don't stay straight without a bandana either, I only use slips when I carry high falutin' knives just for the heck of it. When there's work to be done slips are just a waste of time.

I have a Russlock. It is a very nice size and weight for pocket carry and I like the blade. But, I do not carry it much partly because I also have concerns about getting a hole in my pocket. I have slips, but like Paul I only use one when carrying a fancy knife. By the way, if you wear Wrangler cargo pants, a knife or pocket stone seems to rather easily work its way out of the slip. Also, I have never been good at opening my Russlock with one hand. That makes it easier to leave on the dresser.

I have used a slip before with no problems, The knives were slightly smaller than your Russlock.

Would something like a nerd pocket protector work? Maybe cut to fit the curve of the pocket? Maybe you could stick a bit of rubber tubing over the lever although you’d have to take it off when you wanted to use the knife.

Thank you all for your comments and suggestions. I already own various size trapper knives and copperheads , Tribal locks and spring assist Kershaw’s I just liked the look and one hand operation of the russlock.It fits in a trapper sheath but I just wanted to use it as a pocket knife and try something different. I just don’t like holes in my pockets. Maybe I will try to put tubing on the lever or try it in my back pocket I just have to get use to it.
