Picked up this old metal handled Imperial a few minutes ago at my local antique store. Good steel on these old Imperials!

I didn't know that Cal!! I thought it was always metal. Don't know why I thought that. That's kinda cool. Wish I had a pic of what it used to look like. I just sharpened it and it gets scary sharp. Imperials are known for their ease of sharpening. Thanks for your comments!

Wow thank you Garddogg!! You have a very nice collection of Imperials!! Neat to see them with the covers on. They sure make good little carry knives. I have a few. I always liked how sharp they get. I couldn't let the little bugger sit in that cold dark antique shop for the 2 dollars it took to bring it home!

Well what do you know, I just picked one up off of the bay, exactly the same. Not in yet. The other 3 were in today, really nice Imperials USAers. They are all still really sharp. The brown delerin toothpick looks to have never been carried. The mini stockman looks to be resharpened maybe once. Yellow toothpick was carried, well done fileing marks on each side of the bolster. You got yours dirt cheap, i payed $10 for stockman, $12 for bolth pick's, and $13.33 for yours. Add on $35 s&h. Stupid Canadian costs. Oh well.

I'm not so sure that some of them didn't come without the celluloid covering on them. I have seen many of them(I have a few myself)that don't have it and show no evidence of any ever having been there. I agree that they are a bargain for the price of them and they perform very well.

If you want to put color to the scale i used nail polish then nail hardener comes out nice and last the pink one is for my Grand darters fishing box :)Imperials arn't the only shell handle knives.left side is a Hammer brand, middle is an ideal and bottom is a Sabre.. The green one is a Imperial Kamp King.

Ha! I was just thinking of taking the old gassed out celluloid off my Richards Queen Elizabeth Coronation knife and using nail polish on that side! (The knife has sentimental value.)

Thanks guys Zoogirl I have tried clear then hardener on a gassed out Boker two years ago and it hasn't spread yet.

Oh. Hmmm. I wasn’t thinking of using clear to cover the existing celluloid, I was just going to strip it and try to use maybe a pearl white to cover the bare metal. I can still see most of the picture, so maybe I will try covering it before I wreck it.

I painted one using model paint (that just feels more ‘manly’ than fingernail polish!)
I will try to remember to post a pic when I get back home in a couple of days.
I do love these old knives!
