GEC Linerlock giveaway

We move a fair number of Great Eastern Knives, but I'm frustrated that 99.8% of them end up in a drawer, safe, display case....everywhere but in a pocket. As a result, it's pretty rare someone actually comments on how the knife 'works'.

A few weeks back I did a nonscientific, unprofessional review of a #73 single blade Northfield on our blog at http://blog.tsaknives.com. After I finished up, I decided it would be a good opportunity to offer a brand new #73 Linerlock to someone else interested in actually USING one, free of charge with one minor string attached. I want some honest feedback posted on the blog.

Since then, I decided I'd also giveaway the #73 I tested to someone interested in trying out a Great Eastern and posting some feedback. Again, no cost to the winner of the drawing other then a few minutes telling us what you think of the knife. (My impression was positive, but then, maybe I'm a bit prejudiced.) So here's your chance to make an objective analysis. Don't try to break it, just use it the way you would any good quality EDC knife.

hello, i sure would like to participate in your test...i went to the site...and got lost...too much excellent information...i have a short attention span, and the articles and photographs were distracting...lol...

I use my #73 single wave chestnut very often GEC's are great (more stainless, please).

I signed up, what the heck, I use a knife daily and have looked and tinkered with a number of patterns. It may be a tough job, resist tearing it apart to see how they engineered the liner lock mecanism. I keep meaning to start my Barlows, but stuff keeps getting in the way. I just agreed to help a friend a few houses down who has helped my mother-in-law out a lot and never charged anything. So he asked me if I would make a hunting knife for all his Grand sons a few days ago. I said sure, I'd be delighted to, you've helped my mother-in-law many times and only asked for a cup of coffee now and then.

Well we were talking a few days later and I asked how many grandsons do you have. He started laughing as I asked "Hey Bob, how many grandsons do you have"? 13 BOYS he says. I'm in the hot seat again. But it is funny, I did not know that the army of kids down there beloonged to him. What the heck it's their first knives, I may as well make knives and sheaths that are of good quality because they acually know a good knife when they see on and appreciate them. Now I find that a rather rare trait in todays kids, a refreshing thing and I have invited them down to watch as long as there is no more than 2 in the shop with me. I think I will have fun with this! Pretty Rare these days, may make a couple things where they are set up and lets have some fun!!!!

If you decide to make them a knife out of those dagger camillus blanks you got let me know; I got enough to get you to 13 I can send. Or that little un-marked drop point as far as that goes.

I agree! I seen those pictures of his fish a few days ago. He looks like the kind of guy who could wield a knife like no other.

Made the drawing this AM for the winners of our GEC giveaway. Congratulations to Jaxon and Brent KJ. (I believe both of them are regular readers or participants on this site)

Brent will get a 735108ECL with Water Snake handles to review and Jaxon gets the 735108 Red Water Buffalo I reviewed on the blog. Both of these guys agreed to try them out and get to keep the knives in return for some honest feedback about the knives on the http://blog.tsaknives.com.

Appreciate the interest from the AAPK readers and as a result.......might just do another giveaway in the future!!!

Sorry your name wasn't drawn, but....I think next time around I'm going to have a drawing for one of the GEC's with a 440C blade. Someone left a comment on one of the boards that they wondered how the stainless blades held an edge. I'll let you everyone know when we're ready to give it a go.

every GEC ive looked at is a little on the large,long & heavy side. i'd never actually carry a big knife. if you made a pocket friendly knife, people might actually use it.

I agree with the wish GEC would make a smaller "Pocketknife". Keep the faith, it could happen!!!

I've really developed a liking for the #73 single blades. The #23 is huge and the 53's are kinda chubby. But the 73SB is just about right. For a number of years I carried a CRKT with the pocket clip, thumb studs, flipper etc and when I lay the 2 knives side by side.....the #73's are much more compact!

But you're right, they're still not the compact knife we all grew up with from Schrade and Buck.
