(Why No?) Mid-sized Barlows

I'm a sucker for a nice Barlow but not until yesterday did it hit me .... there are your mainstay Barlows around the 3 to 3 1/2 inch and then companies started making the big "Daddy" or "Granddaddy" Barlows at 5 inches
But I cannot ever remember seeing a Factory Barlow (Not Custom) at about 4 inches, which for me personally is my preferred 'user' size.
Anyone ever make one?

I think the Northwoods Madison Barlow would qualify. It’s 4.25 inches in length.

Thanks Cal ... I have actually already done that found a Madison that someone had turned into a shadow pattern (sacrilege) tried to bring it back closer to its former glory

That's my beef with Barlows- a little on the small side at 3" - 3 1/2", because I think 3 5/8" - 4" is the perfect folder size. And the Grand Daddys are too big for pocket carry in my opinion. Nice collection, Brumby!

The "in-betweener" Barlow was once a thing, halfway between the typical 3 3/8-3 3/4" "standard" Barlows and the 5" granddaddy variety. Germany seems to be the source for most of the older ones. Here are a few vintage ones from my accumulation.

You're right of course KS ...a nice size. And I have a couple.
Love it if they did a pattern just a tad longer - I can live in hope.

The only difference between a Barlow and a Barehead Jack is the length of the bolsters. There have always been Barehead Jacks is sizes between a small & large Barlow in increments of 1/8"; e.g. # 3/8", 3 1/2", 3 5/8" etc up to about 4 3/4". I think manufacturers of old only made 2 sizes of Barlows thinking that if a person wanted a different size they could/would buy a Barehead Jack.
