Kizer knives thoughts

Post by markpreston »

Got my first Kizer the Caligine model in black wash titanium. S35V steel and ceramic ball bearings. Overall action is smooth and lock up is solid. This does not have the lock bar insert out of stainless but I see no issues being titanium. Pocket clip is very tight and hopefully breaks in a little. Blade grinds are perfect as is centering. Came razor sharp. All in all a really well made piece. If you are on the fence about the company handle one if you can, they really are worth the money.

Most reviewers put Kizer in the mid range for quality, which is still very good. Reate and WE are 2 of the highest end knife makers. It is WE that makes the Todd Begg Steelcraft knives, the most expensive of which are $775. These are expensive but a bargain when compared to a full custom Begg at ~ $4000.
I have a WE 703E which at $150 is their economy line with D2 blade & G10 handles. It is as smooth as my Steve Hoel custom.

The thought of going over $200 makes me cringe, but a few years ago $100 would have seemed absurd and before that $50 for a pocketknife was considered heirloom quality! lol

I just got a Ganzo FH11 for about $25. It is a superb knife, no spring but flies open and has solid detente and is hair poppin' sharp. Everything about it is perfectly 'right on'. I just cannot see how the knives at $200, or $500 or even $900 (all actual prices for made in China high end tactical knives) can be all that much better than this $25 Ganzo.
However high prices only deter an addict for so long.
