Northwoods Drop
so uh, why is nobody talking about tomorrow's Northwoods Madison Barlow drop? What I find infinitely more interesting about the drop is the "variety batch" they're touting. Past knives that didn't make it to market in time will be available tomorrow along with the advertised booty. A little flotsam and jetsam free-for-all. This could be very interesting..dontcha think..?

Steve, Maybe we are trying to keep it quiet so the internet isn’t overwhelmed tomorrow. That thought has crossed my mind several times today.
Actually I was just busy and didn’t have time to post anything.

There are 2 Northwoods Barlow knives: the "Everyday Barlow" and the "Madison Barlow". Are they made using the same GEC frame ? and which GEC' frame or frames are in these Barlows ? kj

The Everyday Barlow was a Queen pattern but I'm not sure which one. Maybe the #69 pattern. I'm not certain but I think the Madison Barlow is on GEC's #74 frame.kootenay joe wrote:There are 2 Northwoods Barlow knives: the "Everyday Barlow" and the "Madison Barlow". O.K. then the Madison will be 3 7/8" closed. I had a M.B. with mammoth handles but sold it. Not sure if i will try later today for a new one.

Re: Northwoods Drop
I might check in to see what the stragglers are that they speak of but my interest level in the Madison Barlow is not high with those handle materials. If they are priced around $110 maybe.

Roland, I may have been mistaken. I just read on another forum that the Madison is on the GEC 43 frame. I would go with that because I wasn't certain when I posted this morning.kootenay joe wrote:Quote: "I think the Madison Barlow is on GEC's #74 frame."

Re: Northwoods Drop
I'm Back !!
That was CRAZY, or more accurately, crazy making.
I clicked to enter the KSF Northwoods Barlow release 1 second after the hour. It took 5 minutes to land. There were 4 knives left. I tried clicking on each one but their description content never came up, could not load any of the 4.
I have never had this before. I have always been able to get to the site and see the knives even if i do not manage to score one. This time i could not even get to the website.
But why feel bothered ? It is a GEC knife and every GEC knife i have bought in the last 5 years has been right-on perfect. So i don't have this one branded as "Northwoods" but there are plenty i could buy branded Northfield or Tidioute.

Re: Northwoods Drop
Took 20 minutes to get through all the screens, back and forth, wait and wait, sorry that one is out of stock, try again. I see why people are upset w/ this process.
I got an Appaloosa bone in the Madison and not even sure what I got on the stragglers, it’s black linen Micarta something. I had 3 different giraffe bones in my cart at 3 different times and each time I checked out it said it was no longer available.
They need to get their act together and get more bandwidth in place. Can anyone say boycott?

Gary, We should start a competing knife company. If demand is this high and supply is this low, there is a market for another company to come in and be more efficient.

Re: Northwoods Drop
Well I'm out here in the middle of Kansas and my internet signal was severely lacking. I tried to get a couple of those stragglers but no cigar. I guess it's really true "There's no place like home."

Re: Northwoods Drop
Somehow I ended up with a couple from the "stragglers" that I am happy with. It is likely there were other knives available that I would have been happier with, but there was no time for shopping. It's a good thing I'm comfortable being impulsive
From what I could tell it looked there were a lot of nice knives in many of the Northwoods patterns in the stragglers, many of them in premium handle materials.

Re: Northwoods Drop
KSF does their best to try to make the knife sales fair to all. Go back just say 20 years and who would have thought that a USA made folding knife would be in such overwhelming demand as to sell out of a few hundred in 5 minutes ? GEC is the real 'hero' here bringing us knives better than any produced in our lifetime.
I feel grateful for all the excellent GEC knives i do have much more so than feeling 'bummed' by being shut out today.
I do suggest that we stay away from feeding the flippers who want big profit margin.

Re: Northwoods Drop
I already thought that $145 for a jigged bone handle was a bit over the top. I don't think the flippers will be making big bucks on these. They won't be my bucks anyways.

Re: Northwoods Drop
Does anyone know about how many mammoth handled Barlows there were ? And the price ?
One of the joys in buying a new knife is to take one's time examining it and then carefully examining a few others to see which you like best. Sometimes it takes 'sleeping on it' to decide which the exact knife is that will be coming to join you. I enjoy this 'savouring' of the knives while i choose.
Unfortunately all this is lost when buying a GEC knife.

Re: Northwoods Drop
The KSF email announcing the upcoming new Madison Barlow, showed 4 knives each with a different handle material. I thought one of them was mammoth.
