philco wrote:My POS package arrived while I was away on a road trip to Florida to get fresh oysters. Today was the first chance I had to photograph my treasures. Knifeslinger sent me three knives, only one of which I'd qualify as a POS. I'll start with the biggest one, a Camillus jack with French Ivory handles. It's a big ole knife that still has a lot of use left in it. The only real issue I noted was a secondary pen blade that's not very snappy. Otherwise it's a great HOK. ::nod::

Next is a nice little wooden handled jack with an unreadable tang stamp that came with its own leather pouch. I believe the handles are rosewood, although I'm not 100% positive of that. They might be ebony but I'm betting on rosewood. Whatever the handles are, this is a fine little knife. It has obviously been used but it's still fully functional and I like it enough to put it in my pocket and pack it some. ::nod::

The third POS in my package turned out to be worthy of the title POS. I'm calling it the Angel Of Death. It is a little no name pen knife with lovely Christmas Tree celluloid handles that are outgassing badly. The bolsters are turning brown where they border the handle material, the shield is totally browned down, and the tops of both blades show corrosion damage. I'm not sure where this one will end up, but it's not going into storage with the rest of my collection. No way, not how!

When I unwrapped the first two knives, I wondered if Paul understood what POS stood for. After opening the third one, I had no doubt he did.

Thanks Paul, this was fun. ::groove::
It was fun for me too Phil, like spring cleaning :D The little jack is an ec simmons keen kutter, the stamp is barely readable on the pen blade.

Pardon my confusion here. BTW, I'm not knife savy, especially on folders.
I have some "POS" maybe, and some various parts. Not a lot in either category, but would like to get them to a user. Is this the correct forum or should I go somewhere else?

The POS Round Table is in exchange we do roughly about once a year where we put one or more of our POSs in a shipping container and ship them off to an AAPK member whose name has been drawn from the Hat. Everyone sends a package, everyone receives the package. Then we share what we got. Sometimes guys get nice knives sometimes guys get worthless knives, it's just all a lot of fun and a good time it had by all.

If you have some parts now if you want to trade to someone you can list them in the knife mechanic swap forum which is a sub forum of the Knife Creation, Restoration and Repair Forum, ( or something like that).

If you want to show pictures of them that would probably be helpful, a description would also probably be helpful.

I thought Ken might be volunteering to do the grunt work on the Roundtable this year but he quick like a bunny disabused me of that notion. Dale, is it possible you're volunteering to put it on this year?

Is there an intrepid soul amongst us who is willing to volunteer to Captain the 2019 POS Exchange.

I would really like to take a break this year and participate by simply picking, packing and shipping.

I'll do it. I'll try to get something launched in early Feb.

I am looking forward to the 2019 POS exchange. I have some "good" stuff to get rid of, I mean pass along. I am encouraging Sundog to get in this year also. Always good to have some new blood involved. Way to go Phil. I know you will do a bang up job!!!
