German Knives

Another newbie question, I read awhile back an article that said most German Knives were not made in Germany anymore, something about Germany not having any type of law stopping other countries from stamping made in Germany on the tang. I can't seem to find the article anymore. Is this true? If so, what german brands are truly still made in Germany. I know Solingen has always been famous for there quality. I think I might have been drinking a little Jack Daniels the night I read the article. That's why I can't find the article again. Thanks

I have seen Pakistani knives for sale with the tang stamp Solingen, don't know how they get away with that unless the blades are roughed out in Germany and then sent to Pakistan for finishing and assembly?

Very good point... same applies to 'Sheffield steel' The most common example that never fails to burn a few punters is the folding 'bowie' made in Pakistan usually marked No. 6 and Sheffield Steel etc. Stay sharp out there. s-k

So then which company's truly make there knives in Germany? There are alot of nice looking knives out there from Germany, but are they knick-offs. Just my preference, but I am not interested in knives from China. Only my newbie opinion, no offense to anyone who enjoys China Knives.

Like the current crop of Owlhead - Munich Ironworks -no one has heard of Munich Ironworks. They are NOT of German quality at all! Of Course the are DOZENS more of fraudulently named knives, American Classics are not made in America. I have a Barlow on my desk right now, thought i may include it in a test. I can tell you that it really belongs in a sewage treatment plant. There is a lot of junk out there, much of it advertised as highly collectabke! It may not be sharp enough to cut butter

Once again,,,,someone correct me if I am wrong.
Unfortunately, for us Boker fans in the audience,,,,their production has moved to China and Henckels has completely discontinued their pocket knife production.
New Buck Creek is still stamped Germany with no city whereas the older models are stamped with Solingen.
Bulldog is also stamped Solingen.
I am pretty sure that all the new Kissing Crane production is now in China.
I believe that Eye Brand is still produced in Solingen.
I am sure that others will have more but that is all I can think of right off hand.

Fight'n Rooster, Eye Brand, and Bulldog are all made in Solingen,Germany in the same factory.

I believe Boker Tree Brand are still made in Germany and these are good value for money IMO. Boker's Magnum line is made in China and Arbolito in Argentina. Boker made Henckels knives until just last year and these are still readily available on ebay etc. s-k

What you looking for bobby, new or good quality older stuff?

I would like to go new if I could afford to. I really like the Queen Knives, just bought a canoe today off of the cumberland site. Honey Amber real nice. I also like Canal Strret. Right now I have some older Camillus which I like. Like holding history in your hand. I asked about German knives ,because they have always had a great reputation. Someone mentioned Fight'n Rooster, german eye, & bulldog all still coming from the same German Factory, real German Knives answering my original question. I know Rough Rider are Chinese made, but some nice looking knives.

german eye balls huh... i got a few ..some older .. some newer.. the jim bowie line of eyeballs i wonder about.. bought one and won't buy no more. i found the knife not to be up to par with thier main line at all....but its just like anything the older stuff is better. i got 30 yr. old case knives with no pepper spots or loose blades w/gator snap.. i got some 1yr. old case knives trying to spot up w/no snap at all. cheap nickle , thinner or what ever, don't want no more of them either. ............TC
