Being a new guy the questions can sound dumb, I see alot of beautiful knives on this forum, I was wondering how all of you get them. Trades, shows, e-bay, web-site knife stores. Thanks

All of the above lol. However I enjoy buying knives at shows the best. It's always nice to see and handle what I am buying.

depends what you're after, if like me you're into older stuff, then car boots and flea markets can turn up some interesting finds, usually at a bargain price!

Bobby, You can also buy many a fine knife from the numerous members right here who have stores. And unlike ebay, you can feel comfortable knowing you will be getting exactly what you pay for.

PS. In case you don't know, a carboot is the trunk of a car and a carboot sale is like a garage sale here in the USA. But they actually sell out of the trunks of their cars. I learned this from a UK bottle forum I was a member of. Am I close Zorro?

You're right on the money smoke, I suppose in the US it would be a car trunk sale! Same as a flea market but outdoors, selling out of the back of cars, vans.

There are some amusing differences between English/American english, one of my favorites being the word fanny. I believe in the US it refers to the nether regions or bottom, in Britain it is a rude reference to the female area adjacent but to the front of said posterior or ass (donkey?), if you require me to be more explicit please send PM for details

LOL......Have friends who came here years ago. Difference in word meanings, and a heavy Manchester accent were cause for a lot of fun.

club members stores are a real safe bet... they got a rep to uphold.if your gonna mess around on e bay LEARN your knives FIRST.! "the bay" can be an expensive way to learn from your mistakes.if you know your knives you can spot what is wrong with the sales pitch,and the knife,warning signs are the sellers that claim to know nothing about knives and others are the ones that use words like stunning and steller,if a knife is the real mcCoy they don't have ta build it up ::blah:: like they're tryin to get a date for their ugly sister.i've bought some knives from members that were'nt for sale just by askin to buy.upnorth posted a show and tell pic of two whittlers , i got one of the two in my greedy lil hand right now,priced right too.. thanks again charlie.. .........TC

On eBay, my best advice is to stay away from the auctions that have bad, blurred pictures and little info about the knife. When you see bad, blurred pictures, click on the sellers other items, if the pictures are clear in their other auctions, then you can bet they're trying to pull a fast one.

Honest sellers will refund your money if not satisfied. Ask questions. Remember, if it appears to be a great knife at a rock bottom price, then something is wrong. Learn the knifes you're after. Watch them sell for a couple of weeks to get the feel of how the prices are running for a specific knife.

Word of caution - collecting knives is very additive, Good luck and have fun. I do! But don't smoke any fags!!!

all of my knives are same thing ebay ,flea markets,a random knife in a drwaer at a friends house and he just happens to feel like giving it to you.also right here on aapk. i just a week ago announced i was letting go a portion of my collection of older american knives. about 50.they are almost gone. and whats nice is i know the folks will be happy because i have explained right to the tee about what they are. some have snap- some dont- some have a little rust some dont -etcetc. in about another week or so i think i might let go of another few.but its killing me. im gonna use the money for just more knives. like the previous post.
