You did better than I, Ted. I got a new microwave oven. She said pocket knives and Marine Corps t-shirts were getting old so she wanted to gift something different. The u-wave I have is 35+ years old and still plugging right along but now it goes to the curb with a "FREE - Works" sign on it. Sigh. I suppose next, it will be me.

We waited until this afternoon to open gifts from our daughter and family in Georgia. I was surprised when I got the wrapping off of a Case box I had never seen. The box reads: CaseXX Southern Grind-Drop point Satin w/Black Anodized Handle SGC0120011. Had to do a little research on this one, totally new to me. I believe I'll try this one out and use it, it rides well in the breast pocket of my bibs.

I'm moving up in this technical world, carrying a plactic looking 9mm and now what appears to be a fancy flipper but I still have some old blue steel and walnut handled revolvers and a big pile of traditional bone handled pocket knives.
It's been a great Christmas!

Thats a nice one TF.This modernizing is amazing stuff but I'll take my snubby and 35 1/2 any day with a buck on the belt ::nod::as I showed my boys my LCR all they could say is "OLD SCHOOL"

My nephew and niece got me a really crappy multi tool. Love the thought but wish they hadn’t wasted their money.

eveled, I feel your pain. Have had several knives that were well intentioned gifts that were not worth a second look. It's the thought that counts! I'm grateful for such gifts even though they aren't worth a toot as a working tool.

My youngest son surprised me this morning with this Case Bradford M445R scout. Along with some collaboration with Tom Cosgrove (bestgear). Hard to find this pattern - thanks for the assist Tom! This one has been on my "Grail" list for a good while.

This was my new knife for Christmas this year. We were in Oregon City on Saturday before Christmas and my wife said, "Hey, why don't we drive up to the Benchmade store and you can pick out your knife?"
So I did... The Benchmade Proper, with olive canvas micarta and S30V steel! My new EDC!

These Benchmade slip joints are really nice! Benchmade calls it a sheepfoot blade but I believe it's really more of a wharncliff.

A note to veterans:
Benchmade offers a 30% discount to all active military, veterans and disabled veterans if you have ID to prove your veteran status. Also the retail store at Benchmade is really nice and they have some very cool things in there!
A guy could easily drop a couple months wages in there without batting an eye!

Dale that one looks like a good backpocket carry. At least that's what I'd do with it. Don't know why more makers don't drill lanyard holes - I guess it's added cost but it makes sense to me to provide that carry option.

A guy at church got one of those and I got to handle it the other day. I’d seen the pics and was on the fence, but in the had I really liked it. Definitely seems like a well built tough knife, and feels good in the hand too. Merry Christmas!

Dale, for various and sundry reasons I have never been drawn to Benchmade. But I find your knife exceptionally "attractive." And with that fine steel I'd get it in a heartbeat.

For me, there is too much belly to be either a Sheepsfoot or a Wharncliffe (I call those that straddle the line a 'sheepcliffe').

"The Proper is Benchmades first swing at a Slipjoint. They didn't use a kick as a blade stop so it has an internal pin which is more of a modern approach. The way they rounded the tang causes the blade to be a little sluggish in transition from half stop to closed which makes it less snappy till you get the blade to about 45degrees. It is not a pinned construction so you can have replacement scales made which opens up opportunities for customizing. Overall I think it's a win. If you are a fan of modern folders and are seeking a light, unintimidating carry option its a great option for office carry. A perfect segway into traditional knives. I hope benchmade chooses to make additional models. I might buy the red one too and have custom scales made for it."

My wonderful bride to be gave me a beautiful 1966 Case Stag 6347 for Christmas. Yes I realize that it's a 65-69 but to me it was born in 66 just like me.

My birthday is less than two weeks before Christmas and this was the year of knives. I was able to fill a couple of holes in my Pocket Worn stockman collection as well, and I gifted myself a few. When we get all the rearranging done I'll get some pictures up.

I love my smallish, old, fixed blades. This Taylor had been yelling at me from the swap meet for quite some time. Finally, my older son said to go and get it as part of his present from me. Me and the younger son hopped in his truck and off we went, the week before Christmas. The knife promptly disappeared and I got it into my hot little hands, wrapped, on Christmas Day!

There’s another one coming if it’s still there as the other half of this years haul. The guy was closed when I went to grab it!
Yeah, I did the buying, but he’s doing the paying!

Btw, any info on it would be much appreciated. I’m coming up kind of empty.

Thanks, Mike. It's got some "character" - looks like someone liked it a lot. But it's all there and not too abused so I'm happy to have it. The provenance is icing on the cake. Now I have a Challenge version with copper covers and this nickel silver Case to keep it company.

Dale , I've got a proper with the clip blade and I have not been able to leave it at home since I got it. You're going to love that little jewel. The s30v blade is indestructible.

Well Jerry, this is the 7th day I have carried the Proper; the slight curve to the edge did bother me and was the reason I didn't buy it at Blade Show West, but after using it for a few days as far as cutting is concerned the curve is a non issue and in fact it may even enhance the cutting effectiveness of the blade.

Greg is right, the S30V it was just about indestructible under normal use. The beefy construction of the blade means that you don't have to go easy on it, it will get right in there and cut in the toughest situations!

The lanyard hole is another nice feature, although I have to add a lanyard yet, I have to find the right one.

If I were rating the Proper on a 5-point scale it would be a solid 5!
