Buck date code questions on new 301 and 2 new 307's

Post by Lakelife »

I have date questions on these three new knives. I have a new Buck 301 U.S.A. Which I don't know the model name but is a large knife . Then I have 2 wrangler Buck 307 U.S.A. in boxes but I don't know the dates for sure . I kinda think maybe 1972- 1986 but not sure . Was hoping to get someone here to tell me . Thank you very much .

Go to the BUCK Forum here and click on the date chart match up your symbol with the date chart symbols.. These symbols are located on your knifes main blade next to the model number..

If they are 1972-1985 they won't have a date symbol but they might if they are 1986 or later.

Here's a link that may or may not help. Pay particular attention to the post at the top from 300Bucks.

I have a copy of the date code . There isn't any any little markings on the side of the buck 301 U.S.A. That's all that's there. On the buck wranglers it says Buck 307 U.S.A. That's all I'm just guessing 72 - 86 maybe . Thanks for your help I do really appreciate you all taking the time to help me .

According to Buck --- all your knives were made 1972-1986 __ as all are tang stamp Buck U.S.A, and the model number :)

I'm no Buck expert but I am interested in 4 1/4" and larger stockmans. All Buck 307s were made by Camillus. The general rule that Buck's without date codes were made before 1986 does not apply to knives made for Buck by Camillus. No 307s have date codes.

Here is a link back to what member 300Bucks wrote on dating Buck 307s. viewtopic.php?f=53&t=16335

One of these days I'll buy a nice Buck 307 but since I have five of the same stockmans that Camillus put different names on there's no hurry. Three of mine were made for Remington as the Model 9501 with green sides and Camillus' standard 1095 carbon steel. I find that steel very practical for daily use. My other two are branded Camillus. One is stainless and the other I'd have to test or use to learn whether it is stainless.

SMKW auctioned an interesting FrankenBuck 307 on eBay. Its blades had the usual Buck stamps. Its sides were Remington green and its shield was stamped Camillus. My guess was SMKW assembled it out of parts bought at Camillus's bankruptcy sale. I watched hopping it would be an opportunity to pick up a knife cheap. A bidder with different logic than mine paid approximately $250 for it. I'm tempted to write another one is born every day but he might know more than me. I bought the Remington 9501 that is in my pocket used for $15 at a gun show.
