Did Case produce a damascus Canoe?

Post by Hellz »

Hello everyone, I've just found this forum whilst searching for some info on a Case knife. Seems like the perfect place to ask :D

I'm new to collecting pocket knives (but not knives in general) and have been offered a damascus Case Canoe. I'm curious about the history of this model as I can't find any info on Case making damascus knives :?:

If anyone could offer any info I'd be much obliged, Thanks

Hi Hellz,

Yes, Case has manufactured damascus Canoes. I know for sure that there are some late 80s models around. Not sure about any others. All of them that I have seen have a D after the pattern number.

I believe there were several patterns done while the late Jim Parker owned Case, as he owned a facility for producing damascas ( formerly Fain Edwards Ironworks.....now part of Bear and Son??) in Alabama, and was always looking for an angle to stimulate collectors. I think some may have been made when River Associates was running W. R. Case as well, before Zippo bought the company in 1993.

EDIT:
I found an old thread at the Case forum. Shirley Boser mentions that there was a damascas Canoe (52131D) done in 1989.....and again in 1998. Could be others, but this is good information for the original question, I believe.

Many thanks for the replies, very useful information. I will go ahead with the trade and get myself a nice EDC :D

I've been collecting knives for a while but this will be one of my first forrays into the classic slipjoint world. It quite addictive already, and I haven't even received it yet! (I've already ordered a Case Mini Trapper with yellow handles and a regular Case Canoe in amber bone, )

You might be hearing more form me

Thanks again!
