Ted congratulations on your new Smith. In my humble opinion, those pistols are greatly underappreciated and represent one of the best bargains out there on todays modern handgun market. I own that guns predecessor, the SW9VE. Mine does have a heavy trigger pull but it's a reliable gun that does it's job very well. The SD line has an improved trigger system that most like much better. Please let us know how it performs for you once you've had a chance to take it for a spin.

Been looking for one of these holsters for awhile, Bianchi 111 Cyclone crossdraw for Ruger GP100-4 inch. Sure makes carrying a lot easier when sitting in a vehicle. Sure new ones are available for $60, picked up this slightly used one at a gunshow last weekend for $10. More cash for knives that way!!

Nice rig there OC. I’ve been looking for something to tote my S&W 65 4 inch around in. I’ve been looking at a high riding pancake holster like the Galco combat master for CC under a coat this winter. I’d sure like to find a deal on one like yours!

I made a few knife sheaths and a bunch of holsters, mostly for me. This is a two loop rig for a Dan Wesson in two different calibers. Because of the fabulous edging and skin coating on the kydex this one is for outside pants wear. I have a S+W 13 that is the same as your 65 if I am not mistaken. I have one made for mine and could do another. These ride at a good height and stay tight to the body. They are extremely comfortable and stay the same for the 6 or 7 yrs I have been making them. They also can be quickly changed to ride in the pants and mount crossdraw with no changes

What leather holster cleaner/ conditioner do you all suggest based on experience and good long lasting results?

Have many leather holsters and mag carriers that I would like to "refresh". They likely don't need it but I would like to maintain them for longevity.

I use a tub of Bees Oil on my leather and wood stocks.

I use this on sheaths, holsters, etc. It was recommended to me by Ruana Knives but I bought it elsewhere, although Ruana does sell it.

Balistol works well on leather, wood, and metal. Created for the German army in WWI. It has a mineral oil base, is alkaline, antifungal too. It’s good stuff. Go back another page I think and Old Hunter mentioned that he uses it on his leather slings too.

On my shoes and such I use Obenauf’s.

When I was a pup I used Neatsfoot Oil on my leather items. Over the years I gradually absorbed, not only from my own observations, but also gleaned from the writings of experienced sages, that oil-based preparations can be alright for leather items if you do not mind them swelling and weakening. I have observed this, and I noticed that one of the places I have seen this phenomenon was on the handles of stacked-leather knives. Cream/wax based preparations MAY be better in most situations. It is probably a matter of degree. I just bought an expensive pair of hiking boots, made in Europe, which had an instruction sheet enclosed which pretty much reiterated this advice. Everyone's mileage will differ.

Certainly don’t want any swelling on whatever I use as these are maker/ model specific holsters with perfect fit. Just want to maintain them.

Long ago I read that Mink oil overly softens leather and makes it darker overtime. Really don't know if that is valid, but I have avoided it ever since.

Bickmore Bick 4 Leather Conditioner. https://www.shopbickmore.com/bick-4-lea ... ioner-8oz/ Same company also makes a leather cleaner and a cleaner for suade and nubuck. If there is a western wear or boot store anywhere near you they probably carry Bickmore products as it's the product for exotic leathers as well.

Mink oil is what I use....
I used to use Neat's Foot Oil but I was told that stuff was bad (I think I was told it attacks the stitching..???) so I switched to Mink oil.

Yep, it might darken leather over time but I guess that is why I like it. I want that "old used leather" look. I use it on my shoes and it sho nuff makes 'em wear good.

I use Ballistol to clean the nasty dirt, junk, molds, and mildews off of old leather. Once clean I use Pecard Leather Dressing to condition and preserve leather (learned of Pecard from the USMC Museum years ago - they use it to preserve antique leather in their collection). I’ve used Sno-Seal on my combat and hunting boots since 1976 - it just works. OH

I have a tanned deer hide that my Dad got in the early 70's. A nicely done hide, that survived a house fire, and has some really ugly stains on it. Would Balistol/ Pecard work on that, do you think?

Without getting into, whats a good leather product, what you do not want is anything that will soften a holster or a belt.

Steelmyheart, I’d go straight to Pecard’s on that, warm it (set tub in warm water) then rub it it very lightly, use it on on area first and wait a few days, if happy do the balance. Pecard’s won’t harm your leather, it does preserve. OH
