Montanaman, what brand is that? I haven’t seen a lockback whittler before. If any knife needed a lock-back, it’s a whittler.
SSk
Thanks SSK, it was made by Joel Chamblin, Sambar stag, gold pins and CTS XHP blade and springs

Continuing today

with a Bear & Son Kodiak Barlow. Colorful scales. A decently made little knife: tight, snappy, half stops.

QS, I love that Barlow. Didn’t know Bear made anything this colorful. Bear does do a good job on Barlows.

Maybe the main reason I've never been drawn to Baer is just that I don't care for the way their bone/stag scales look. Simple as that. But I agree with you about their Barlows. And as I used it today in light duties I came to like it a great deal.

They also managed to build a buffalo horn Barlow that is just uniformly pitch-black. Any white streaks in the picture are due to reflections, not variations in the horn. Bear is hit-and-miss but sometimes the price combines with a nice SFO or nice combination of materials and you can't say no.

I do like that black one, it is especially nice. Here is one of the prettiest Barlows I have seen. It’s made by Bear for Keen Kutter. I sold this one not too long ago and actually got what I asked and didn’t have to discount it, unlike many Bear knives I have sold.

This one is in my pocket today, made by Bruce Barnett from Australia, soon to be Master Smith.
