Re: BOMBS AWAY!!! THE UN-OFFICIAL OFFICIAL BOMB THREAD
Today, Scott bombed me with an addition to my small collection of medium jacks. This one is an Imperial shell jack that's in almost perfect condition. Great addition to the pile. My most sincere thanks to Mr. Scott. You do know how to pluck my heart strings.
Since Scott seems to never send a bomb by it's lonesome, I also received a stack of sticky notes. I think I'm set for the foreseeable future. Thanks a million Scott.

Re: BOMBS AWAY!!! THE UN-OFFICIAL OFFICIAL BOMB THREAD
I have a very special friend who called this afternoon and said, "If y'all aren't doing anything this afternoon, I want to come and see you." I told him we'd be here as it has been raining most of the afternoon.
This special friend has some heart issues, a mitral valve problem that a team of doctors in Birmingham are hesitant to tackle. He turned 80 back in August and he told me had been working on his last will and testament. When he came in this afternoon, he handed me an old worn cardboard box from an optometrist's office. I opened it and inside was quite a surprise, a Case XX 5172 SSP! Turns out he has assigned all his guns to certain family members and his knives are to be available, first to his 3 sons, then sons in law, each choosing one knife, then do another round and so on until the knives are all claimed. While he was planning all this last night, his wife said he remarked, "I need to give this one to Phil." Thus the visit this afternoon.
We go back to the late 80's, our oldest daughter and their middle son dated in high school and after 2 years of college they married in '92. We became best friends, I was with him when he killed his 1st deer, lots of family time together over the years. Our children decided to divorce after 9 years of marriage, we were heart broken as parents but we chose to stay friends with our ex-son-n-law's parents. We been very close for 30 years. I was almost speechless this afternoon, "Are you sure you want to do this?" He replied , "I do." The history of the knife is interesting. Seems one of his daughters married a feller who's dad owns a sporting goods store. The owner was a Case dealer and had set a whole display board of 1976 Stag handled knives aside. The store owner was thought to be having some beginning dementia issues and he asked his daughter-in-law to record the info about the knives on the 1976 display. I don't know what happened to any of the knives except the 5172 and I remember drooling over several years ago.
It's a nice knife, I would love to use it but it'll have a special place to be displayed. My limited research this afternoon reveals this knife did not come with a display box. Some other years there were wooden display boxes, maybe I'll run across one some day.

That rascal Tommy (carmillus) has been up to his old tricks again. I went to the mailbox and here's what I found. Ain't she Purdy? My pictures suck but if you could see this princess in hand, she would knock your socks off. She's just gorgeous. The note inside said Merry Christmas but that can't be possible because I haven't been near good enough to deserve this beauty. She's one of those split-back whittlers where the main rides on both springs. Perfect snap, the walk and talk is just perfect.
Thanks Tommy. That's just generosity above and beyond..................... and I appreciate it mucho my friend.

Re: BOMBS AWAY!!! THE UN-OFFICIAL OFFICIAL BOMB THREAD
You could have knocked me over with a feather today when the mail carrier showed up with this. 313 Mike is the guilty party on this one. Thank you Mike. I don't know the proper words to thank you for this little beauty.
Folks it's a Case 1972 Mini-Trapper, pattern 6207 before they switched to the Spey secondary blade. This sweetheart is one of those that you sit there and open the blade only to close it again just to hear the SNAP. She has half-stops and they're as positive as it gets and Mike must have sharpened it before he sent it. Who could ask for more. Again, thanks young Devil Dog. I really like it a lot.

Re: BOMBS AWAY!!! THE UN-OFFICIAL OFFICIAL BOMB THREAD
Mike Stigler had this Case Knife up for sale a few weeks back, there was some discussion as to whether or not the handles were bone or Delrin and I bought the knife. Ended up the handles were Delrin and Mike offered to kill the deal and refund my money or let me take a look and decide whether or not I wanted the knife - I told Mike I didn't care, I liked the knife, I liked Delrin handles and I wanted it anyway. He sent it to me - take a look. OH

Re: BOMBS AWAY!!! THE UN-OFFICIAL OFFICIAL BOMB THREAD
Really nice isn't it? I think so. Also in the package were a couple of surprises - TWO more Case knives - a double bomb. Mike knows that I really like a Stockman and he sent the snappiest action Medium Stockman I've had my hands on with some deep, deep brown bone handles - I touched up the blades last night and the old Case steel takes a wicked edge - carried it today and man is it a nice carry (I played snap the blades all day long). Now, also in the package was a Case Barlow - I was stunned, and I mean really stunned - Mike's gifts were over the top. I have bought a few knives from him over the year and he is as stand up a man as you will ever meet. Thanks Mike, I really appreciate your thoughtfulness!
