Some of y'all know we enjoy puttin' Bambi in the freezer. I'm not too sure about this season with the woods turned upside down from Hurricane Michael. One shooting house is inaccessible due to downed natural growth timber, one stand has part of the roof blown off, one ladder stand was damaged when the tree that supported it broke in two and my oldest stand was blown from its' ladder platform. One stand is still intact, a small trailer with seats and a roof. It belongs to a preacher who was a professor at the Baptist College of Florida. I gave him a key to the lease as most of our hunting was on our small farm. He left it on the lease property a couple of years ago and told me to keep it as long as I needed it. Looks like we are going to need it this year, especially for the Grandsons Thanksgiving hunt. The two trail road to the stand was not passable so we had to cut the pines into manageable pieces earlier in the week and today I pushed them out of the way with the tractor. I've been hunting this same lease for well over 25 years and have seen every condition change due to this being an active timber plantation.

The saw gave me a workout, resting in the "shooting trailer". The hurricane had shredded the curtain covering the open end.

Our old shooting house that had survived more than 20 years. Notice the ladder and platform in the background, against the pine and the trailer beyond it. There is a window sill in that stand that probably has at least 35 notches in it. I hadn't hunted from this stand since the 2013-14 season because of joint replacements.

Miss Joy taking a picture of our destroyed handiwork. She and I built that stand using a climbing stand to begin the construction. Can't do things like that any more.

This is what Bambi sees from this old clay pit. He would be looking into the "shooting trailer" south of the pit.

I had a good weekend last week. I took a little 8 pt on Saturday, and a hog on Sunday.

Good job, Unk! Let's see here... , you got some good back strap, a couple of tenderloins and two hams that make some mighty fine eatin', plus a fine squealer to mix with all them less desirable pieces of venison and make some sausage. And on top of that, you busted 'em with a left handed rifle! Great pictures, looks like the "T" posts are keepin' the feeder upright.

Thanks guys! Yes, I have a freezer full of meat now. The T-posts have done the trick, and kept the cows from knocking over my feeder. I will probably put up a pen around it next summer to keep the cattle from eating the corn. Treefarmer, that is my old lefty Rem 700 in .30-06 with a Leupold 3-9x40 scope. It gets the job done. It is the only left handed firearm I own, and I sure like it.

Congrats Unk -- we don't have the hogs on our place ""yet"" but they are all around our area

I got these two ( 110 lb. 4 point & 95 lb. doe ), last week ____ with them in the freezer, my hunting is over for the year -- ended up with 5 total for the year and the freezer full*** -- weather is turning colder, and the rut is in full swing -- I'll get out of the way, so the "young guys can chase those ""Big Racks"" , while I dine on fresh venison steak & sausage, somewhere inside, near the fireplace

Got the ""Euro Mount"" back for the 170 lb. 8 point, I killed Oct.14 ( Last photo ) -- guy done a nice job,imho** -- have a great day my friends,Monk

Monk - Those young ones are best eating. That is a cool mount, I do not recall ever seeing one done just like that.
