Re: WHAT ARE YOU CARRYIN RIGHT NOW? WHAT IS YOUR FAV EDC?
This would explain it! Thank you, I have never heard that before. I sharpen all of my knives freehand on Shaptons, and this knife never takes or holds a very good edge, and I know that 12C27 is a great steel. I figured it had to be soft, but I would have never thought that soft. It is a great meat and cheese knife, as is its intended purpose.Quick Steel wrote:Montanaman, reference your Laguiole: Some years ago at the Blade Show a French representative of the brand was on hand and was deeply frustrated by Americans. He explained that almost every visitor to his booth asked "What is the hardness of the steel?" He would reply, as I recall, it had a Rockwell of 46 or 48. Thereabouts. This invariably resulted in the visitor looking disappointed and walking away. Exasperated, the Frenchman forcefully asked, "What the hell do you Americans cut?"

Laguiole knife
For those who already know, drive on. For those who do not, school is in session.
The Laguiole knife (French pronunciation: [laɡjɔl], locally [lajɔl]) is originally a high-quality traditional Occitan pocket-knife, originally produced in the "knife-city" of Thiers where 70% of the French cutting tool production comes from, and in the small village of Laguiole, both located in the Massif central region of France. "Laguiole" is neither a trademark nor a company name. Rather, the name "laguiole" became associated with a specific shape of a traditional knife common to this area.

Tony, I don’t know what kind of bone this is. I bought this knife second hand, out of a knife roll, because of this bone. Thanks, I like it too.Tsar Bomba wrote:big-H, if that Diamond Edge were a stockman instead of a Texas jack I could reproduce that photo exactly.![]()
Tony W., even your "normal" factory-built knives are attractive. What kind of bone is that on your peanut?
Old Gebr. Hoppe (Solingen) pen knife with a curious "1kg weight" stamp and a newer Queen Hawbaker-style muskrat. Most of what I have found on Hoppe are metal-handled advertising knives and the impression that it was a lesser-known Solingen cutler from shortly after the war. This knife features nice, sturdy jigged bone handles and a curtly-clipped master blade. I can't quite tell if that was an aftermarket mod from a typical master spear blade. The "clip" is perfectly straight and the blade takes up nearly all of the available space in the well, so...

Jerry, thanks for the info. It's the weekend so the fixed blades come out to play.

Another ride for the #14 today as the honeymoon period rolls on. And I realized this morning I haven't given much love to my Spydies lately...
