Pre-WWII Switchblade?

Hello, I am hoping someone can give me some info on this knife. The handle is dark green, it does not have the bail as was required for the M2. The date on the blade says" PAT JAN30-40. It does not say Geo Schrade as with the M2. It says G. Schrade. BPort, CT. It does say Presto but the date and style don't match anything I am finding in books.

Who advised you that this was an M2? Your knife is a fishtail without a cross guard. It has nothing to do with an M2 . Which was a small hunter style knife. Your knife in the present condition is worth 50 to 150. This pattern was made by Schrade, Presto ( G Schrade ) edgemaster, shursnap, bowie and several other firms. most likely made in the 40 tys. I am including some pics of both styles the M2 was made in bone or brain plastic the bail made it the military version without was the civilan version let me know if you need any more info. LT

I appreciate your thorough response. I found the knife years ago helping a friend. We were at a junk yard removing a back seat from a 55 Chevy to have it recovered for my freinds car. When the seat popped loose there was a wallet and a this knife. The wallet was empty. I have left the knife in the condition it was found, except wiping it with a cotton cloth. I like the design and am considering making me a pocket knife identical to it to carry. Thank you again for your help.

LT PS I remember the night I lost it we were at the drive in it was dollar a car load night there was just me and Susan the movie was Jailhouse Rock with Elvis I forget the second feature. I had spent my last buck to get popcorn. I lost my wallet and my knife Susie lost something a bit more individual.Afterward we split a quart of warm Ballantine and shared my last camel cigarette. It was a great night I always wondered about the knife. Did you find any of the popcorn. I hope you have as many memories with it as I do.

Since I responded to this thread and remembered the incident there has been an old song going through my head ( which usually happens when I recall that evening ). I wonder if any one else remembers it. Aptly it was called Wake up little Susie. The words as I remember went something like this

Yes indeedy this proves several things first. Bobby Sox, high school hops, drive ins ( whoops that sounds like an old Statler bros sone ) . ect are gone. second as I have said before, I am an old fart reitterating stuff I am sure no one cares about so thankyou for putting up with my ramblings ( an old mans privledge or so i was told when I was younger by then old men). Actually I do not know if you have heard it but they just released a ( update geriatric) remake of a 70tys song it is called WE ARE THE WORLD> WE ARE THE OLD FARTS. THe video is done in a Hospice everyone is in white gowns or diapers. There is a lot of slurring and spaces in the song since a lot of the singers could not find there teeth and kept forgetting the words. So pass the Pablum take a slug of gerital and vote for Kevorkian. LT
