KNIFE FINDS OF THE DAY

I found this little pen knife by E.C. Simmons Hardware Co. It's only 2-3/8" long with embossed aluminum handles so it weighs next to nothing. Half stops and excellent open and close snap on both blades. Both blades marked "E.C. / SIMMONS / ST. LOUIS."

While my wife was in a fabric store I went down the street to a pawn shop and was rewarded with this little gem for a good price. A 3.25 inch, Wayne Stainless, Japan, No. 150 stockman with bone scales. Flitz, elbow grease and mineral oil revealed a solid EDC in great condition. I think the build quality is fine.
I think I’ll take my wife fabric shopping more often....

Never seen the likes of that one before but it looks like a fine knife, nice bones and an interesting shield. Good find!

My son just picked up some vintage knives and this Olsen Knife Co 2700 8" BUF Solingen Germany knife was in the lot. Can't find much on this knife other than its probably from the early 80's. I found a simiar one, 4700 for sale for a price around $275.

Did we find a jewel amongst a box of stones? Anybody help me out on this?

Only one knife from my Knife Club today, but it's a dandy of a knife. It's a 1840's S. Wragg, Sheffield with gorgeous Stag and a cyphered blade. I think I spelled that right. It was a little spendy for my usual budget but hey, I only bought one. ___Dave

What a great knife Dave, and pushing 180 years old! If that's the kind of stuff that shows up at your knife club meetings then maybe a 1400 mile drive from Boston would be worth it.

I had to pass on 5 or 6 more that were nicer but the price reflected their age and condition. I didn't want to tell my wife what I paid for this one. The guy I bought it from deals in different circles that I do but once in a while a guy just needs to step up the game a little. Think my wife will buy that?____Dave

I found this Western S-531 in very nice shape on the way to my grand-daughters wedding this weekend. The shop I hoped to find knives in was closed, and I found out from a shop in the next town that the owner, Terry, had passed away. He was a member of my knife club but only came a few times because of travel distance and he needed to be open on weekends when we meet so I didn't know him well. It still bummed me out to see another of my club members pass away and our club die with them. Have a great Tuesday. ____Dave

Neat Western. I have the same knife but with the clip blade, S-533. I bought it in 1978 and there is a "B" on the tang, so made 1977. Used it a fair bit in last 40 years (40 ! )
Sorry to hear of your friend's death. It is a loss and they pile up.
Here is an Equal End jack, 4 1/4", a Boker USA 9471. I don't collect Boker and know little about them but this one is in fine condition so i placed a bid and won. Fine walk & talk, half stops on both and zero play. Seems Boker USA made good knives.
Any Boker collectors (or others) who wish to comment i will appreciate any info. e.g. age ? 1950's-1960's ?
Are Boker USA knives valued less than other USA brands, like Ulster, Robeson, Schrade, etc. ?

Especially because of the bolsters I find that an exceptionally good looking knife. Do you know who made the USA Bokers?

Boker made them. They acquired the Valley Forge factory in 1890's ? and then in 1920's built a factory to make knives in New Jersey. I don't know when they stopped making knives. Hope someone posts this info. I think Boker has an office at least, in Colorado but this might be just to manage German Boker imports ? That's all i know and it might not be 100% accurate.

The only current American made Bokers I'm familiar with is a relatively new series consisting entirely of tactical folders called Boker Plus USA. It's made by some company called FOX USA (unsure if related to the Italian company) in Alabama. But I'd love it if they came out with some traditionals, or started using the old "BOKER USA" stamp.

I just got one from my Knife Club (North Star Blade Collectors) today, but it's a big one. I've been eyeing this knife for years and finally decided to spend a little more money on a knife than I usually do. It is a Singleton and Co. 10 Bakers Hill, Sheffield ebony, pen blade lock with full 1/4 inch wide master blade and spring and full blades. I placed it on Neal Punchard and Ricky Ray's new book (which I also picked up today and can't wait to tear into) to show it's size which is 6 and 1/4 inches long closed.____Dave
