Please be kind, It was my very first try. After some more practice I am going to try a 23 single blade and put on some very nice colored Ironwood.

Looks like a good start to me! I've finally found a method that I'm happy with. I take good old blue tape and cover the flat and sides of the spring with it, making sure to get sharp edges on the corners. I layout a tiny grid (usually 1/8 lines down the length of the spring, then a centerline). That way I can make consistent cuts the without having the marks wear off on me halfway through (damn sharpies

). An added benefit, is the filework stands out more while your working on it, since it's bright metal in a field of matte blue.

I haven't done any really ambitious file work yet (vine, etc) so you definitely started at the deep end

Yes you will be doing more for sure. I think its nice to try things like this. You will have a higher level of love for knives when your done with this one try too. Time well spent and practice, practice, and practice...

Take 2, I only did the pattern I did not try to clean it up. I am almost ready I just wish I had a sharper angle file, knife type.
Blowing it up in the picture sure shows the flaws, it looks better in real life, smaller.

I will scan a knife or some filework & blow it up just to see flaws I miss with the naked eye.
It is a good tool to help you prefect your work.

Just keep working at it, and get you a small half round machinist's file, and grind the flat side smooth, be careful not to overheat the file though, if it gets to hot to hold with your bare hand, it's to hot, quench it in water, and start grinding again

Ok I did it on the real spring, and I messed up so I threw it away.

Fortunatly I had a spare junk one from my practice stash that I made work.

Only problem I broke a file I needed on the junk one to do the vine pattern.

So I come up with this pattern and I am not sure what to call it but I think it looks OK.

I know I messed up a little, hey its my first time.

Now I am excited to put it together, OOPS but this is not the word I used because I cracked the ARGENTINAIN LIGNUM VITAE handle.

So I take it apart and try some cocobolo, guess what, Those words again.

Now I grab my African Padauk and start over.

Well it worked out OK and here is a picture of it put together but I need to finish it still.
