Thanks for the camera info basser5 ... Funny most folks are either Canon or Nikon - if my current Nikon goes I am debating whether to change to Canon - they are both good though I believe Canon is abit less hard on the wallet which may be a deciding factor at this point for me .. Been awhile since I searched out camera options and what is out there so appreciate the info... One of my important deciding factors is the macro lens options which I use often...

Great camp Dan ... It's always nice to have a get-away from all - good for the soul ... I have to ask - how's the Northern Pike and Small-mouth Bass fishing up there?? One of my bucket list things has been a fly-in trip to one of those desolate camps in Saskatchewan - Big Pike on the fly rod would be a tremendous hoot and something I have seen video and photos of for years - I am talking Pike in the range of 45" and some over 50" ... My Bro-n-law has a camp way up in the Adirondacks in upper NY stat (and been to others of friends in Maine) - all basically off the beaten track - always a fine "escape" to clear one's head [/quote]

The Northern pike fishing is quite good, if, like me, you are just looking for good eating ones. There are quite a few in the 35" to 40" range that come out of the lake, but very few over 45". I used to do fisheries work and have gillnetted lakes all over northern Saskatchewan, but have only seen a handful of 45" to 50" pike. There are no smallmouth bass in the lake, or anywhere in northern Saskatchewan. The walleye population was decimated by anglers in the 70s, but is starting to come back.

I spent the last 10 days at the site building a small (360 sq ft) cabin so I can sleep in a real bed next summer instead of a camp cot in a tent. Ran out of time and didn't quite finish, but hope to do so right after ice out in spring.

Hey Phillip --my buddy broke the ice this morning ( first day of muzzle loader for us ) with this 175 lb. 7 Point around 8:00am -- seems to be an old deer,but I'm not much on aging them ?? - got him from a new ground blind/tent we put up about 6 weeks ago -- Remington 50 cal. to tha' chest, we found the slug in his heart / lung area when we cleaned him -- fresh meat in tha' freezer !!!!!! --- have a great day guys, Monk

Although I suffer with fybromyalgia and sadly progressively getting worse these days I've always loved the outdoors,I use to hike for miles and go on long bike rides,but I still try and get out when I can here are some pics from a bike ride last week st my local heathland , been riding there for nearly 20yrs ,beautiful place

Thanks Dan for the info ... 35-40” pike are nice fish and no doubt fun on the fly ... a shame about the walleyes - fine eating fish too!!! The new camp is looking great ...

I drove out to the end of McMillan pier in Provincetown today to ask about the Mackerel fishing.
Before I got out of my car I noticed this gull who was unmoved by my presence. I took these pictures through my windshield.

I used to love fishing for tinker mackerel from that pier using small diamond jigs. We'd catch a cooler full and have a fish fry. Do the locals still dive off the pier for coins Joe?

Thank you, Tom. So glad you have a connection here. I don't know if they still dive for coins but when my son and I came back here several years ago he and some of his pals were doing that. Great local stuff. I'm glad you thought of it. And the tinkers are in.

We had a cottage in Eastham and frequently went to P-Town to see the hippies and fish for mackerel. The giant tuna being brought to dock were always 1,000 pounds and we were always amazed. I remember a VW in the parking lot filled with sand - is that still there?

Here's one, Tom. The fisherman who caught it said it weighed about 400 pounds.
They let me get in the back of the truck to take pictures. What a fish.
