Repairing Broken blades

sometimes replacing the blade isn't an option and you need to reprofile the broken tip to make the knife serviceable again such as in theis case. however, always remember- the more blade that is broken off, the more distorted the blade will look when reprofiled.

Nice job MM.

I like to turn that type into a Wharncliffe myself.
I find more use for a Wharnnie than a clip blade when working around the shop,
but that is just my preference.

Boy, I dunno Dale,

That would be a tough decision, on this particular blade... it would hafta be a pretty slim Wharnie, because there's not much to work with, on the spine of that blade.

Agreed, the whole thing is just a "user", at this point - It's gonna lay short in the frame, no matter what. You know I love a Wharncliffe, but I'd hafta study awhile, with that blade.

MM did do a good job, reprofiling tho', don't you think ? Hey ! How about a coping master blade ? I can see that, readily....

the swedge lends to the straight re-profile in my opinion. too much material would have to be removed for any other style to look good jmo

Absolutely, I agree. The job he did is outstanding. It has a better grind than a lot of factory knives.
The average guy-on-the-street would never know it was re-profiled.

I just like Wharnnies........................................................I see Wharnnies most every broken blade. I can't help it.

I was glad that Kaleb started this topic. Here is some old "stuff" that I can use and abuse as much as I need to and won't be out anything. I got all of these out of a friend's trash box. He was going to toss them because of broken blades. Now, I'm not as artistic as Kaleb and I only ground off enough to make them usable. Maybe Dale will like the wharncliffe blades.
top lt.- 1560T Schrade rt.- Schrade barlow
Middle- lt Camco rt- Camillus
bottom 2, junk, stainless paring knives. "SCARY" sharp.

The Schrades also had broken handles, so I slapped some Oak on them.
The Screwdriver blades make GREAT knife blades. The steel seems to be as hard or maybe harder than the knife blades.
I know...BOOOO-RING!

Bill, I like those screwdriver regrinds I have a ton of them in the parts bin out in the garage. I have one partly reground into a wharnecliffe, just need to get the bevels refined with a fine belt.

I too have been looking at all the screwdriver blades....just haven't found the right shape to use yet....
