Edge Brand and Edge Mark are two Solingen cutlers who use an elk on their sheaths similar to yours. Hope that helps.

"Do you think there was ever a little knob on the end of the handle?"
I think the handle might have shrunk and turning the pommel nut tighter exposes some of the threads at end of tang. Or, handle has been apart and in putting it back together one of the spacers was omitted.

Every thing shows stag handles, so it may have been replaced with wood. spacers not even or smooth either.

Artistry in blade, scales and sheath. Wow that is a beauty. Perfect carrying size and very useful all though I would probably never use it. Too pretty. Just excellent. ::nod:: ::nod:: ::nod::
