Andrew Jackson Jordan B 1846 wholesaler,importer and mfg 1870's to 1920's St. Louis. this is a condensation from Goins and LG4. Hope this helps.

AJ Jordan was at one time a salesman for Friedmann & Lauterjung. I own a billhead that says that Jordan was there sole agent. He had some of his knives made in England and germany. The Sheffield knives are some of the best knives ever produced.

His son bought the Platts Brothers Cutlery in Andover NY and started using Clay Cutlery Andover NY. A.J. Jordan was the selling agent.

These 2 pieces of info come from Goins' latest book on Cutlery markings.

Levine's 4th has Clay Cutlery possibly made by Robeson?

A long while back B. Levine had very high praise for the steel Jordan used in his skinning knives. I believe it was called "triple shear" and apparently it was the skinner of choice for the buffalo hunters.
I believe this was in an article written for Knife World or such.

hey i have a knife i inherited. It is a long metal blade with a wooden handle that says "Jordan's Best" on it. the blade says "AAA1 A.J. Jordan Sheffield England" on it. if anybody could give me some inf on it thatd be kool thanks. heres a picture of it:

The Nov. 2008 issue of Knife World has an article entitled "Clay Cutlery and The A.J. Jordan Empire" by David Pierce. A lot of good info there.

thanks for all the help. A.J. Jordan is a relative of mine. im not sure if hes a great uncle, grandpa, cousin or what. I was actually named after my dads relatives(Jordans) so its pretty kool to have an interesting relative. Ill see if i can check out that new book from the library or something.

I thought that these would be good to show in this forum. The 2 blade is marked Clay Andover NY USA 3 3/4" closed and the whittler is an AJ Jordan 31/2" closed, I love the horn on the whittler.
