Thanks for the pics Grant. The master blade on this knife appears to be slightly hollow ground. I think Schrade called it Kon Kav ground. I might be looking at it wrong.

With the knife in hand, can you see any sign of bolster pins?

Re: camillus #72
The blades look similar to schrade, but the bone definitely does not. I think it's an ulster.
You can usually spot the difference between a schrade/ulster and a camillus because the blades on the schrade/ulster are larger, particularly the coping blade. As Grant said you can also tell because of the match strike pull of a camillus, which schrade did not do on the 863 and it's variants.

Camillus made a wood handle 72 the called a Camillus 5 this knife did not have a matchstick pull.
The only Ulster 63 I have are Delrin handle and a Kon Kav grind on one side.
I have some Craftsman 9492 ( 72 clones ) made by Imperial.
It looks like that Imperial made knives for Craftsman under the names of Ulster, Schrade and Imperial.
How to know the difference between a Imperial Schrade knife and a Camillus.Look at the top bolster(main blade) the Camillis is a fraction wide and the Schrade is more rounded.Check your knives than you can tell me If I am right or wrong.

Compare it to this Hammer Brand (note the shield & the saber ground main) Schrade and Ulster shields are football shaped with ends that are much more pointed. The only Imperials I have for comparison have a Scout shield.
Edit: Yes, I do see the shields are not exactly alike.

WOW....
I am AMAZED at how many different 72's there are out there.
Looks like you could spend all your time chasing them.
(I know every time I look into a pile of knives, that is the shape I look for now)
I got this 1047 yesterday.... somebody had re-attached the shield wrong and with some sort of thick rubbery substance. First thing I did when I got it in my hands was to turn the shield correctly and attach it with some good epoxy.

Jerryd the shield on the Imperial Hammer brand looks like it would fit in David's OP knife but were there ever any with bone handles?jerryd6818 wrote:Compare it to this Hammer Brand (note the shield & the saber ground main) Schrade and Ulster shields are football shaped with ends that are much more pointed. Ladies and gentlemen of the jury. We have a surprise witness that has just entered the courtroom. Apparently I have a knife just like David's.
Here it is compared to a Schrade made Olsen and the Imperial Hammer Brand. Just about a dead ringer with the Imperial except for bone handles

Well, I found this poor and very sick "WHITE TAIL CUTLERY" 72 pattern knife at the antique store this past weekend. Nothing at all on the blade tangs....There is a little blade etch left. MAN.... how does anyone ruin a set of blades like this?
Anyway, Jerry, I am sure you have a good example of this one... don't you?
