Ode To The 07

The W.R. Case & Sons Cutlery Company has a very rich history that began in 1889 when William Russell (“W.R.”), Jean, John, and Andrew Case began fashioning their knives and selling them along a wagon trail in upstate New York. The company has produced countless treasures and it continues to do so as one of the most collected brands in the world.

Never ceases to amaze me when sellers post crappy photos on eBay. If I've learned anything about selling on the Beast, it's that the pictures do 99% of the selling...a POS knife that has really good photos has a much higher chance of selling for a decent price than even a high quality or expensive knife that has crap photos (bad focus, bad lighting, bad angles, etc.). But, it's a good way to pick up a decent knife for less money. I always make sure to look at knives with poor pics...I'm convinced that the poor pics are directly responsible for the lack of bidding competition, and subsequently a low selling price. I don't mind paying full fair price for a knife, in fact, I usually overpay for "absolutely-must-have-at-any-cost" knives; but, whenever I score a must-have on the cheap, I feel extra giddy...like I've pulled something off.

I'm thinking we should call the grind on the Carhartts the "Carhartt Grind" because it's kind of between a regular grind and the "New Grind". Pictures attached.

And then there's the Tony Bose Grind which seems to be halfway between the Carhartt Grind and a regular (perpendicular or straight line) grind.
To wit:

BTW--about 4 years ago I made mention of this in one of my early posts...nobody seemed too concerned about it at the time except Elvis who was kind enough to acknowledge and respond.

I was collecting the '07's for a couple of years but have only kept a few now. Here's a few of my keepers.

Thanks! They stopped using the pen blade as the secondary around 1978/79. It adds so much character in my opinion.

Those are beautiful, slim...I, too, prefer the pen blade to a spey...but, I'll still take a wharncliff over anything else.

Here's my latest 07 snag...

For me, the pen blade turns it into a Jack and it's no longer a Trapper. Wharncliffe is of course my top choice.

~Q~ that's a beauty right there. Congratulations.

Didn't know those existed. I was concentrating on Doctor's knives from the Family Tree set.

That's another beauty, slim. Very nice.
Are the Family Tree Mini Trappers the same length (3 1/2") as the other 07s?

PMs received & read, John...(they stay in the outbox until they've been opened by the recipient...just so you know). I've had my hands full (and covered in ink) all day trying to fix a broken printer...Failed. But, your news about the mod has saved the day. Can't wait to get it.

Thanks, my friend.
