Re: What is Your Latest Old Schrade?
Thank you all for the nice feedback. Tom, I think I'll have to hold on to this one for a while. Besides, what are the odds of me ever finding another Schrade you don't already have?
Here are a couple more pics after many hours of wiping away a century of grime. Notice the straight line tang stamps? It still snaps hard and has just the slightest bit of blade play on the master.

Good show on that Washington bolster jack; I hope you carry it.
Meanwhile, who bought the Schrade CutCo true whittler a couple days ago? Come on; let's have a look!

Re: What is Your Latest Old Schrade?
Jason and Cal, nice 2OT's that you found.
This knife is marked Schrade Walden NY USA with a blade etch that says Craftsman 9488 Professional Carpenter. Except for the bone color and minor difference in the shape of the shield, it appears identical to the Schrade 804 that I posted a couple of weeks ago.

That Craftsman is amazing! I love seeing the old survivors that still show the blade etch.

Both of those are in really great shape and very practical. The little blades are perfect whittling blades.

The etches are really a bonus and command top dollar. This one is jigged black composition/celluloid/fibestos???.jxr1197 wrote:That Craftsman is amazing! I love seeing the old survivors that still show the blade etch.

Nice 804's Jerry and Cal. It's a good hefty pattern.

Re: What is Your Latest Old Schrade?
Cal your Everlastingly Sharp 804 is a very nice example!
The Schrade Walden NY USA 297 pictured below was a targeted acquisition
. The 297 is also compared to a Cut Co R7973 that I posted earlier. The side-by-side picture highlights the difference in the jigging pattern. It is a tough choice to select a preference between the two styles of jigging and coloration. I do prefer the blade configuration of the R7973.
Roger, I became interested in Schrade after I handled some Schrade Cigar and Cattle knives and felt the quality workmanship in the knives. The acquisition of the 804's (and a couple of other patterns) was driven by age and condition rather than than the pattern number.peanut740 wrote:Very nice Jerry.I didn't know you liked 804s.

This little beauty showed up today. A SS2013 that's mostly there. Needs a little TLC..

I have a bunch of Jack Knife Ben knives with peach seed bone. Here are two with the JACK KNIFE BEN HANDY DANDY JR. The one with the bright etch is tang stamped SCHRADE WALDEN N.Y., the one with the faded etch has no tang stamp but has numbers 0302 on the back of the master blade.

Re: What is Your Latest Old Schrade?
I picked up this 3" sleeveboard lobster on the cheap this week. It's not in the catalogs but it's most similar to the 9679SS from the 1930 supplement. Maybe it's a SFO based on that pattern. The handles are solid sterling and the pile side tang on the spear blade has 50 over 800 - maybe #50 of 800 made? This one also had the liner milled which is hidden until you open the file blade.

Re: What is Your Latest Old Schrade?
This 710 came in yesterday, the jigging was gunked up and there was a little rust. It cleaned up nicely, and only cost about the same as a whataburger with fries and a shake, but unlike a whataburger with fries and a shake this knife will bring long term satisfaction
I like this stamp.

Re: What is Your Latest Old Schrade?
I like that little knife; I did not spot it in Dale's research section. Somebody bought a little one today, a newbie that undercut me. It was a little tiny SW stockman with oblique bolsters. and cracked ice covers. The seller did not furnish a tang stamp with a pattern number. I hope the buyer posts, but I am not expecting it.KnifeSlinger#81 wrote:This 710 came in yesterday, the jigging was gunked up and there was a little rust. Re: What is Your Latest Old Schrade?
I would not necessarily lean towards early 50's as it would have been more likely in the early 50's for them to have used the earlier walden stamp (like the 708 I just showed) and possibly stamp all blades. I have some knives with that stamp on all blades and some on just the main blade, but none have a pattern number.jxr1197 wrote:My guess is early fifties.
