Where Are All The Remington Knife Collectors?

The Remington Corporation and the knives that they built have influenced the U.S. cutlery industry more than nearly any other manufacturer. From the time America was settled, to the end of WWI, American knife companies struggled to compete with Britain and German imports, but events that occurred during and after the First World War led to a great change in this phenomenon. Unprecedented opportunities arose, and Remington stepped up to seize the moment. In the process, they created some of today's most prized collectables. In an ironic twist, the next World War played the greatest role in ending the company’s domination of the industry.

My good friend Larry found this beautiful Remington sleeve board whittler at the Blade show and helped me buy it. Thank you Larry! ::handshake::

It is 3 3/8" closed. I believe the pattern number is R6393, but would be grateful to learn the correct pattern number if my presumption is incorrect.

Very nice Jerry. That knife is the only folding knife I can think of with a blood groove on the master. Larry definitely hooked you up. Great knife. ::tu::

Jerry, that is a nice knife. Do you think it had a inked pattern number, or just no number?

Many thanks to all for the gracious comments. I hope Larry isn't reading these comments and decides to keep the next Remington he finds. :D

Good question Harold. My speculation is that it never had a pattern number because the blood groove reduces the space available on the tang to place a pattern number.

Keith, can you check your examples to see if they have pattern numbers?

Jerry, both my bone R6393 and pearl R6394 are stamped. Usually the inked knives were produced in the mid to late 30’s. Great knife, congratulations. John

I have 2 and the straight line stamp has a pattern number and the other is marked like yours and has no patter stamp. I assume yours is an etch on the blade not ink. Mine like yours with the etch has no pattern stamp but the straight line has a pattern stamp and no blade etch.

Hi there, I am new to the forum. I have a split pearl handled Remington knife with a number of R7414. I haven't seen any other Remington knife online with this number. It looks to have been manufactured in the 1924 - 1933 by the stamp on the tang. Does anyone have any info on this knife? Thanks!

Welcome my friend to the Remington thread and to AAPK the best all around knife forum on the net!
There is plenty to say related to the Remington model number R7414...but I think it important to see a few different angled pictures of your knife which would include the tang and pattern number stamped on your knife. This is vital in part, in makeing sure we are sharing info about the right patterned knife and correct era production. I look forward to your pictures and replay.
