Kershaw Tyrade

Bladeshow Production Knife of the Year. These have been arriving from Kershaw to dealers in small amounts, but I finally received mine on Saturday, 3/01.....................and it was worth the wait. At the time I found out that Gary had gotten these in I went ahead and placed an order with STR, aka Steve Rice, over on Bladeforums for one of his low rider clips he makes. The clip arrived about this time yesterday. As a result the tyrade has been in my right front pocket since that time. Have to say that it rides well, is flat, and the low ride clip places the ENTIRE knife in my pocket with nothing showing except a clip on the outside of my pocket, and since it is a thin clip, it could easily be mistaken for a pen.

Here's some specs. on the Tyrade;
BLADE LENGTH: 3.62"
BLADE THICKNESS: .150"
TITANIUM HANDLES: .130" each one
WEIGHT: 6.7 ounces
BLADE STEEL: composite of 154CM/CPMD2
HANDLE LENGTH: 5.0"

This knife does make use of the Speed-Safe assissted opening and it really throws the blade out. I've tightened my pivot so that the blade does not slam into lockup, but still deploys quick enough for me. It is set up for righthand tip down carry only. The knife locksup via a framelock and Kershaw has done an excellent job with it as lockup is bank vault tight and solid. The spring has enough stiffness in it to not be unlocked accidentaly as you will have to make a concious effort to push the spring over.

All in all I see this as a great edc for me and as I've already said, it is in my pocket as I type this. Also want to say that even though this is a thinner knife than either of my ZT's, the 0200 and 0500, it is nearly as long as either one and it is definately a heavy duty knife. The titanium frames and the thickness of the blade on the Tyrade are nearly identical to the BM Skirmish 630.

I think Kershaw has a winner with this one and have already taken the composite blades another step by offering a Leek and soon to be released JYDII in Sandvik 13c26/CPMD2.

Super nice knife. I really like that newer clip. I have the Scallion and it is tip down carry. I am thinking I may try to make a clip for it and try to make it tip up carry if possible? If not, as the safety may be in the way, I will still try to make a different clip as I don't like the clip that's on the Scallion now.

The STR clip really allows me to have the Tyrade in my pocket with nothing but that clip to show for it. Just the way I want it to be!
