I did not realize that my center pictured knife: Tortoise, Pribyl Bros. above has a hairline crack at the rear pin until after I observed my expanded picture.
And Dimitri, your Broch & Koch is a Front and Center beauty.

Purchased this tuxedo yesterday. No manufacturer info. Any help identifying the maker would be highly appreciated! The flowers are on the back of the celluloid bolsters. Blades look unused. One blade is like a needle. Thanks.

This is an imperial tuxedo. I'd love to get an estimate of age.

Imperial started around 1920 and went out of business in the 1980s... well known for the high production of thousands of plastic and shell handled knives that no doubt were affordable for the masses ... mmmorici - do you have a better photo of the tang stamp as a few different ones were used over the years? Again just guessing here but +/- 1930-1950s vintage

Here's one I forgot to post - somehow this Krusius Brothers Germany tuxedo ended up in my pocket a few years back .. Ivory handles and the smallest Federal shield I have ever seen - I can say I have not seen another tuxedo with a shield - certainly not in this thread... Classic German knife in my eyes given the contrast of pins with the nickel silver bolsters ...

That is a beautiful little Krusius Brothers, Lee.
That is a rather small federal shield. Very nice all around.
Jerryd has a knife on page 1 that has a shield.

Here is one by Dixon Cutlery Co.; Goins says circa 1920. 2-1/4",brass liners, half stops, and excellent snap.

Many of the MOP knives shown in the thread are quite similar in appearance. I bet most were made by a handful of Solingen cutlers.

I would think these evolved from quill knives. Maybe as the use of quills faded the cutlers gussied the pattern up and marketed them as more of a gents all-purpose knife. I bet a lot of early 20th Century pencils were sharpened by tuxedos.

I have a knife similar to that but I never considered calling it a tuxedo. I guess it is a tuxedo.
Mine is made by Cook Bros. Sheffield. Mine is very well made and has half stops. .... 2 1/2" closed.

The green flowered tuxedo I pictured is 2 3/4" long. The imperial is 2 7/8" long.

My tuxedo is almost 3 inches. Both blades stamped CATTARAUGUS CUTLERY Co. LITTLE VALLEY N.Y. Notice the long pull on the master blade and the beautiful waterfall pattern celluloid in perfect condition after 80 years.

Beautiful Jacknifeben and nice addition ... Celluloid pattern is quite nice and no sign of outgassing - but I am seeing some significant shrinkage at edges along bolsters ... celluloid always worries me and have no clue whether shrinkage is a precursor to eventual outgassing - I hope not ...
