I was all set to add my favorites. Most were already posted, not only that, many many movies I had watched more than once and had forgotten showed up also. Been watching movies for 60 years and some do not spontaneously get remembered until nudged.

Bladerunner

The original, not that horrible movie made for children that had a similar name. It is the one movie I have watched more than any other. Also read the original short story and the graphic novel adaptation.
At what point do our creations acquire souls? The question is going to come up for real fairly soon.

My favorite movie of all time, "The Last Picture Show." I grew up in small-town Kansas, it really captured the flavor of small-town life in the 50s and 60s.

That was a good one. The book was better. I thought about listing it as well as Hud, based on McMurtrey's first novel Horseman, Pass By. In both cases a major figure in the novel was virtually eliminated from the movie.

Probably why I enjoyed the television mini-series Lonesome Dove, and The Good Old Boys so much. They're almost verbatim reproductions of McMurtrey's and Kelton's arguably best works.

Maybe that should be another thread - "novels Hollywood ruined".

My daughter is a big Star Wars fan, and at home we regularly watch some episode. On Friday we are at the premiere of the new episode "Han Solo".

Outlaw Josie Wales, favorite movie of all time, probably seen in about a dozen times at least, know most of the lines by heart.

Full Metal Jacket..I saw this movie before going to boot camp and thought boot camp couldn't really be as hard as it's portrayed in that movie...then I saw it again after and was astounded at how sloppy the drill and discipline was in the movie! Still a great flick though.

Pulp Fiction, I must confess to being a big Tarrantino fan, over the top, campy, raunchy, vulgar, violent, funny movie fun. I would also guiltily put From Dusk Till Dawn here as well, seen that one numerous times, hilariously over the top...definitely not for everyone though! If you are easily offended, you will want to stay away from Tarrantino.

I'm not easily offended but I avoid Tarantino at every opportunity.
Love most all the Eastwood movies and characters but Josie Wales is clearly my favorite western character.
I haven't seen a couple of my favorites mentioned. One is Sands of Iwo Jima. Early John Wayne and I saw it 1st when I was about 7 or 8 years old. I never miss an opportunity to watch it.
Also, Battleground. Great characters in a good movie. The last scene in this movie always gives me goosebumps.

And I took his advice to heart. "I shore am glad I ain't a'skeered to be lazy." I couldn't believe it when I watched it the first (of several) times, as it was right off the pages of the book and the images in my mind. Turns out L. McMurtrey made sure that happened. What a wonderful list of old favorites in this thread!

Y’all have mentioned most of my favorites. I love and rewatch most anything John Wayne, Bogart, Ward Bond, or Maureen O’Hara.

There are some series on Netflix that I rewatch often. Charlie mentioned Foyles War which is very good as is Father Brown, Morse (and its prequel Endeavor, and its spinoff Lewis), and Poirot. Murdoch Murders, set in turn of the 20th century Canada is gray as well.

Thanks! I didn’t know about the Murdoch change. I think it’s hillarious how they work all of the common day things we take for granted into the series as new inventions.
