Moose Antler

Does anyone have a knife with moose antler handle or scales?
How well does it hold up? Or does it?

Steve, I have worked with moose antler, but only in small quantity.
The tines work similar to deer sheds, but with little to no pith.
I had a small piece of palm that is boiled, flattened between metal plates, and used for scales. It had a waxy finish to it following that treatment.
I don’t think it is as hard as ivory, but I found it better to work with than whitetail.

The stacked guard/handle knife in the lower left is a dyed moose tine handle. (The picture turned sideways, it is just right of the ivory handle with blue paracord lanyard.

Steve, we did a few with moose antler, it's thin and does require some flattening, but it's definitely tough stuff:

The reason you don't see more customized knives with Moose antler in this forum is because this is the wrong forum.
This forum has more to do with production knives and not custom or customized knives, they would be found here, in the Knife Creation, Modification, and Restoration Forums: viewforum.php?f=48

I was thinking someday having a folder customized with moose. It's such a huge animal and popular in my home state of Maine.
The fixed blades are certainly beautiful, but not practical for me to carry in my neck of the woods

Steve, you could have someone scale a folder as Eric’s fixed blade is scaled. That is a possibility, and would pay homage to your region.

I'm thinking about buying one of the less expensive Case knives, probably one on clearance from Shepherd Hills, and having it re-scaled.

That one was in Wyoming. I too love that kind of county. Not a total cold weather guy but I can tolerate it. Never been to Maine but would love to go. Our Lord's plans are best.
