I do have a question about one of the above knives. The Buck lookalike in front is a Sabre but made in the USA. Did Buck make theses? Seems very well made.

I have one of those USA Sabres like that, I think Colonial made them. There was a thread on that subject a while back.

Well, our postal deliverer barely made it up the stairs without passing out. The dog didn't even try to run out when I opened the door! Lit 3 candles to help the house smell decent, and away we went. Real shame @ that Catt in there, this is some prime poo right here. But Olde Cutler gifted a pen he made, and it almost looks like a baseball bat, my 4 year old loves it too!

Doug (rexstubbins) - The "dirty dozen" will be making it's way to you later today and it should be there by Thursday unless the postal inspectors find it too offensive. I've worked hard to set aside what I consider to be world-class POS but you'll have to judge that for yourself. Thanks for playing and please don't hold these against me, I'm sure they can be used in future POS roundtables.

Curious as to why the German made Russell Barlow is a POS? Perhaps a broken blade? I live in an area where finding used knives of any type is difficult, so the barlow looks pretty good.

I recommend you don’t open it in the house. If there is an abandoned building the next county over that might be a good spot to open it.
I know you can work magic with nasty old knives, we’ve all seen it many times but I think these are beyond even your help, all 4 pounds and 6 ounces of them!

Maybe it will help ease the terrible pain in your nostrils!

I doubt anyone can match the sheer poundage of worthless poo that is in that first package!

Did someone request pictures? There is an old Camillus rope knife in there, a TL 29, Case mini, German made Russell Barlow, the butterfly, the lockback single, scout knife, SAK knockoff and some penknives. Note the tie tac in the second pic. That will go on my AAPK ballcap when I get one.

I don't think Cal has figured out what constitutes a POS.

Well, after getting this huge pile from rexstubbins, I'm surprised there are any more knives in the world for the rest of you... Holy box of BM Batman!

You really know how to drive a guy that has a compulsion to research & catalog every knife in his possession completely insane! I'm going to spend the next month trying to figure out the brand name & country of origin on some of these.

I am also absolutely overjoyed with the Case Doctor's knife. That's cheating - no one told me sending a knife that the other person really likes was part of this game!

Suitcase, a nice knife is not mandatory and not everyone does it but there are enough who do to make it not uncommon. What makes this Roundtable so enjoyable is there are only a couple of conventions (and they're not rules); please no pile of rust and please no bag of parts - those are not knives.

Love the Doc and that Sabre Fruit knife looks pretty sweet too. In fact there are several in that bunch that would end up in my pile.

Tom, re-read the OP. Unless you're yuk'in it up there.

However there are some conventions. It is requested you don't send a pile of parts, whole knives only (tipped or used to death blades are okay). Also nothing that's so rusty you can't get the blades open. Those are not knives, they're just scrap metal.

Sorry for the rest of it but I thought I'd throw a bomb and get rid of some over ripe pieces at the same time. I believe the ebony jack is a re-gift from a previous POS if I'm not mistaken. Enjoy

The little brass pen above the ebony jack made me laugh. I'm a Catholic School survivor, so once I had it under a loupe and found that it says "St. Christopher Protect Us" around the shield, I laughed out loud. I wonder if the nuns at my old school would have still confiscated the knife if I told them I needed it to protect me on my travels around the playground?

The melon knife is marked ATCO, Japan with a "4" on the back of the tang. The little bit of research I have done so far indicates ATCO was an importer of many different products from Japan, including knives, telescopes, loupes & magnifying glasses. There is another Atco in that picture, it is a 2-blade small stockman with brown bone handles in the upper left, 3rd from the top. Was Sabre the mfr for the ATCO imports?

Doug: now do you see what you have done? I'm down a rabbit hole trying to research the origins of a silly import knife.

Apparently, there is some silly regulation regarding the shipping of raw sewage across state lines. It took awhile for the waivers to come through, but by golly, we made it happen.

Possibly. I have a Sabre that looks just like that one, which is why I thought it might be a Sabre. Unless someone knows for certain, I doubt there's a way to verify that.

I just found what appears to be a draft of a 2008 article from Bernard Levine for Knife World where he says:

"Yet even some of the commoner mystery brands of the 1950s and 1960s still elude us. For example, who and where was R. J. RICHTER, an importer of Scandinavian and German knives in the early 1960s? His main claim to fame was importing the first fantasy Nazi pen knives, evidently made for him by Olbertz of Solingen. Other mystery markings include ATCO, ALAMO, BEST, COLES, ERMA, IMCO, L.A. Co., ORIENTAL, and PASTOR ALEMAN (probably a Mexican import brand)."

If Levine can't figure out ATCO, I haven't got a chance!
